Six months had passed since I was reincarnated into a goblin girl and today was the day that I made history! Today was the day that I started to crawl. Okay, it wasn’t too much of a crawl, more like me trying to crawl, and failing at it, but hey I was trying my best, don’t make fun of me! All babies are like this! Or at least that's what I think.

It would seem that most normal goblin children my age are already walking by now. Goblins aged much faster than humans, it would seem. I managed to learn from my uncle that goblins only live for around thirty years at most. My uncle was in his mid-twenties, and my mother was in her early twenties. Though when comparing the two of them they didn’t look like siblings at all. In fact, father and daughter would be a more appropriate term to describe them.

“The only reason that my mother actually looked her age, was because she was half human and took more after my grandmother’s side of the family. While it isn’t fully known, the rest of the village believes that my mother and I will live longer than most goblins. I myself sure hope so, because I want to try to live as long as possible in this world, even though my low levels of mana are basically killing me.

My uncle is half human as well, but he takes more after my grandfather, which explains his appearance. My uncle explained this to me while trying to put me to sleep. He liked talking to me and didn’t mind it at all. The more he talked, the more I learned.

It would seem that the older goblins get, the longer their noses get and the more warts that grow across their bodies. Though these seemed more true for the men rather than the women. Tully and Sola had darker green skin, black eyes, and only serval warts on their skin. When compared to my light green skin, no warts, and sky blue eyes. Once they get older, their ears would become longer, and their warts would disappear.

Though besides that, they might only get a foot taller than they are now. Goblin women are around three to four feet tall, while the men are around five at most. My father was a hobgoblin, so he was around five and a half feet tall. My mother herself was just under five feet, making her the tallest woman in the village. That woman that attacked her all those months ago was actually four feet tall.

I’m hoping that I can at least be as tall as my mother when I grow up because in my previous life, I was just at the edge of being six feet tall. Though overall, it was a wonder how I would turn out thanks to the goddess's influence.

Besides learning about the goblin lifespan, I did manage to learn something both interesting and off-putting at the same time. The language that I heard each and every goblin speaking was speaking a language only they could speak. And it turns out that my more spoke a universal human language to Lilith when we met. Which explained the weird feeling I had when they spoke to each other.

The goddess must have made it so I could understand both human and goblin dialects. I guess it must have been a simple matter to do since I was technically both. The unfortunate thing about this was that once I became aware of that, I noticed that the goblin language wasn’t as “elegant” as I perceived it to be; it was missing a lot of grammar.

“S-she cute,” Tully said as both she and Sola watched me try to crawl, giggling as they watched me fail.

“Yes, cute, me like!” Sola said back, smiling at her.

That was just a bit of what the goblin language sounded like with a grammar filter, so if you don’t mind, I’ll just keep doing what I have been doing.

“Come on, you can do it,” Sola said, cheering me on. “We believe in you!” she yelled as I tried to put my right arm forward to move forward, but my body would currently only let me slap my hand against the ground.

“Aww, keep trying,” Sola said, poking my cheeks.

“Sola, st-stop that,” Tully said to her. “She doesn’t l-l-like that.”

“It’s fine,” Sola said, going to poke my cheek again though as she did, I was trying to crawl again, making my hand hit hers when it got close enough.

“Look, Tully! She fought back!” Sola yelled, excited to see me accidentally hit her. I doubt that she even flinched when it happened.

“Sh-she did not,” Tully said back to her. “She w-was just trying cr-crawl, and you got in her way. She wouldn’t hurt anything.”

“That’s right,” my mother said before picking me up into her arms. “My little Illya is too kind to hurt even a fly.” Well, I wouldn’t say that. I don’t normally wish to harm others, but if they mess with me or try hurting me, I’ll definitely fight back.

As my mother fed me, I watched them play from the corner of my eye. Looking at them made me wonder if this is what it would be like to have older sisters. In my old life, I was a neglected only child. But in this life, despite my family's current circumstances, this felt warm. It felt safe.

“Oh, sorry, sweety, but that’s it for the day,” my mother said as she stopped feeding me before placing me on the ground. I didn’t even take much this time, but my mother looked really drained. I wonder if it had anything to do with her visiting Lilith these past six months. Every time she would come back, she looked more drained than before. How much blood did that crazy witch need!? Or was this something else that my mother wasn’t telling me?

“I'm going to take a quick nap. Can you girls keep an eye on Illya for me while I’m going?” my mother asked as she began to stumble towards the bedroom.

“Mmmmmma! Mmmmmmmaa!” I tried to call out to her, but I was still too young to even think about talking yet. I reached out for her, only for Tully to pick me up and sit me in her lap.

“It’s al-alright. Your mommy just needs some rest,” Tully said, trying to comfort me, but I knew that there was something wrong.

“How about we get you some fresh air,” Sola said, helping Tully up to her feet so that she wouldn’t drop me. “It should be fine as long as we stay close to the house,” she said as we went outside.

Today was a hot day like most days were since I was reincarnated into this world, but today was especially hot for me. As a baby, I was affected by the weather a lot more than Tully and Sola were.

“Nnnnnnh,” I moaned, feeling uncomfortable in the sun.

“Oh, sorry!” Sola said, realizing that I didn’t like the sun. “Here, this should be a bot better,” she said, placing me into the shade, which was much more comfortable for me. I watched as they played with a small ball that Tully brought.

For the next honor or so they played together and even rolled the ball over to me. I tried to roll it back to them, but I didn’t have enough strength to do so. At most, I could sometimes manage to stop the ball. Though overall, I had fun, and I guess that some time while we were playing, I must have over-excreted myself, and I found myself waking up in mine and my mother's bedroom.

“You need to slow down,” I heard my uncle say to my mother as I saw him standing next to the side of her bed.

“I can’t,” my mother said back to him from her bed. It would seem that neither of them realized that I was awake. “I need to keep doing this for Illya’s sake.” My sake, what was she talking about?

“We still have plenty of time left,” my uncle said to her. “What’s the point of protecting Illya if you run yourself into the ground doing so? She needs her mother.”

“No, she needs to survive,” my mother said meekly. I could hear the pain in her words as she talked, and I wanted nothing more than to cry out and stop her from talking, but I knew that I had to hear more of this.

“Unlike us, Illya still has many years left to live and face the fact that this village will never accept her. She is better off somewhere else. If my sacrifice can save her, then I will do it over and over again. She can live without us.”

“If you believe that, then you should try to spend as much time with her as possible, not giving that witch your very life served on a platter,” my uncle said to her. “In your condition, any more will kill you!”

“I know, but thanks to my sacrifice, she completed it ahead of schedule,” my mother said back to him. “Illya will be safe when it happens, so please do it.”

“I-I can’t. It’s too soon,” my uncle said, sounding scared.

“It has to be done,” my mother said to him. The longer I hold her in my arms, the less likely I will be able to let go of her when the time comes. Please do this for me so that we may protect her.”

“I understand,” my uncle said in an unwavering tone. “I’ll make the preparations.”

What were they going to do? Were they going to abandon me? Was my mother actually going to die!? I didn’t want that! I finally got a loving family and two older siblings; I didn’t want to lose them!

“Wahhhhhhhh! Wahhhhh! Wahhhhh!” I could control the chaos that was my emotions as I began to cry my eyes out. I didn't understand what they were planning, but I knew that whatever it was didn’t end well for them.

“Shhh, shh, there, there, mommy is here,” my mother said with a soothing voice as my uncle handed me to her, rocking me back and forth in her arms to calm me down. After a few minutes, I stopped crying, but I knew that could start crying again if I became any more upset.

“Sorry, mommy and uncle didn’t mean to wake you,” she said, soothing me. “We were just talking about a trip for all three of us to go on. I fact, would you be happy if we take your little friends along with us?”

“I didn’t know what they were planning, and I knew that her words were nothing but lies, but even still, I wanted to believe in her words. I wanted to believe that these peaceful days would remain.
