Dear Readers,

I first met Jasmine Starshine-portrayer of the world renowned character “Jasmine Starshine”- at Capcon 2020, right before the pandemic hit.  I’d just quit my teaching job and was making a go at this patreon writer thing; mostly still coasting off of savings if I’m being honest.  (To give y’all an idea; I wanna say Unfair chapter 10 or 11 had just released that weekend of capcon).

The details that followed that weekend are a little fuzzy, primarily because my own Little space is extremely close to being drunk: No filter; thoughts come too fast for body; poor impulse control; don't care about the state of my clothes; the works.

So when I say that one thing led to another, that’s how it felt.

Long weekend short: that Saturday night after my first (but not my last) Capcon talent show performance, a group of friends and friends of friends dragged me into somebody’s hotel room and we all piled up on beds while a bunch of baby girls broke out their laptops and recording equipment.

Apparently, a number of this crazy group are padded podcasters, and they’re doing a Capcon crossover, and wow, I’m just happy to be here.

I barely knew podcasting was a thing within our community.  I wanna say I knew about a podcast run by somebody named “Mako” but…that was about it.  So things start rolling and then I am introduced, officially, to “The Usual Bet” and “Dear Jazzie.”

I’ll talk about The Usual Bet in a later post.  (Good things, I promise.)

I’d be lying, however, if I didn’t say that Dear Jazzie caught my attention first between the two. Maybe it was the premise: A bit of personal ramblings from the hostess and fielding write-in questions about kink and all other sorts of topics,  often with guest stars.  I think I heard it best described as “Loveline but for babs”.  And the questions themselves are any mixture of sincere, silly, and stupid, and they get the appropriate tonal response.

Perhaps it could have been the hostess herself.

My earliest memory of Jazzie is from that same convention.  We were sitting together at communal social tables, in proximity because of mutual friends (it was probably the Usual Bet’s Kimmy…I blame her…) and I said some obvious stupid quip.  Real dad joke.  Everyone else laughed politely.

Jazzie slapped her thigh, and at the top of her lungs yelled.  “HA! YOU SAID THE FUNNY THING!”

This broke me and my mind immediately decided that Pers HAD to be friends with this snarky blue husky bab.  It wasn’t up to me at this point. It just wasn’t. This kid was too cool for me. Baby bird opened its eyes, and even though he definitely already had a Mommy bird, if he turned his head, he saw a kind of sibling in the nest beside him. Sometimes friendships be like that. So then the podcast thing got brought into the mix, and I became increasingly endeared and addicted.

An added feature is that Dear Jazzie records live on discord.  And while I was not the biggest fan of podcasts prior to Capcon2020, there is something to be said about a live comedy and advice show. That definitely helped bridged the gap for me.  That feeling of community and that I was getting to actively listen to the banter and advice from off the top of the adviser’s head raw added something to my crazy brain.   So I started tuning in to every recording I could make.  It’s good advice, too.

The topics range from satirically silly to deeply personal, and Jazzie approaches each with complete sincerity (or as sincere as questions like “What is the shittiest diaper?” can be).

She also tries to find new outlets for community interaction. A fairly recent memory is her doing essay contests that she read the answers on air and her and a panel of judges consisting of herself, Fawny (her current and best co-host. The Ed McMahon to her Johnny Carson) and a guest star, and the winner got a gift card to ABU.

On a completely related note: Under Jazzie’s authority I am the president of ABDL within her domain.  Those were some good diapers.  But even if I hadn't won something and had my ramblings played to the communist national anthem in post, I gotta  appreciate another creative type trying new things and changing it up every once in a while.  Never rest on your laurels and all that.

More than just contests, she’s also done a lot to get sponsors from the various ABDL diaper companies.  But in lieu of getting paid, she gets a discount code that she shares with her listeners; because she’s very much about building up and giving back to the community.

Real salt of the earth, this one.

She’s also a dear friend these days that I talk to at least once a week.  And for those of you who’ve read my occasional cryptic updates, talking about upcoming secret projects:  It’s progressing slower than I had initially anticipated, but her involvement is VITAL to it on multiple levels. Literally couldn’t be doing it without her, and I don’t know that I’d want to if I could.

Fast forward to Summer CAP (Capcon 2022) and yours truly gets a small guest spot on the Dear Jazzie Capcon Recording.  I'd told Jazzie a funny story a few weeks prior, she was like, “Can you tell that story in front of people with a microphone” and I’m like…”Uh…yeah?”

So that’s how I ended up on stage doing my first attempt at stand up…And I was just incredibly honored to be included.  By that point it had been a dream come true of sorts.

When I tell her this, Jazzie is like, “Wait. You’ve wanted to be on the show?  All you had to do is ask. I’d love to have you on.”

Ain’t imposter syndrome a bitch, folks?  I’m just glad audio recording doesn’t pick up blood traveling to and from the face or eyes getting misty.

So, as you have probably guessed: I told you that story to tell you this one.

This Sunday, October 30th, 2022,  at 8:00 PM EST, yours truly is going to be a guest co-host on Dear Jazzie, answering all of your kinky questions and just talking about nonsense off the top of my head with the two of the sharpest minds and padded butts out there. It is either going to be amazing or it will go down in flames.  Either way it’s sure to be entertaining. I am psyched, and hope y’all listen to it as you find the time when it comes out.

If you want to get into the discord with a lotta cool peeps, myself included, consider subscribing to her patreon.

For just 1 dollar, you can subscribe and be vetted to her discord where you’ll get to listen to me ramble on and try to make people laugh on the night of.  And if I do my job right (Jazzie and Fawny will certainly do theirs) you will become as addicted as I have.

She’s a content creator who is busting her ass with the goal to build up a steady enough revenue so that she can do it full time. Like most of us, this is a side hustle at present, but for her it’s an emphasis on the Hustle.

If you want a free sample, remember that Dear Jazzie is available on apple or spotify for your listening pleasure.  Check out the fairly recent Capcon episode if you want to know what my awful voice sounds like.

I tried first getting into podcasts with the usual bet, but I just can’t get into it. I don’t listen to the radio or news either because I just have a hard time listening to others talk on and on. I completely zone out. Which is funny because I have a problem of talking on and on. I just can’t listen to anyone else do it lol

Dear jazzie is amazing. And while the usual bet is good, jazzie’s always has me thinking

I am the same way. The only podcast I have ever been able to listen to long term was the Skeptics Guide to the Universe...but even then I eventually gave it up. For me, its just not engaging to listen to someone else spout opinions for an hour....even if I agree and am deeply interested in the subject material. To be clear, I'm not knocking podcasts....just not my cup of tea.

And that's nice. You're not required to enjoy all forms of entertainment or mediums. But I'm trying to lift up, promote and plug a colleague and friend...

Im actually happy that you are. I like seeing stuff like this that brings the community together.

I so want to go to capcon. Sadly I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go.
