Kyoya is interesting, you see little glimmers of him being a good person, but he keeps people at arms length usually with his sharp tongue, it's kind of a good thing honestly that he let Haruhi see that side of himself, it's... weirdly a sign of trust, even if at the same time he's trying to keep her at arms length, he slips up just enough for Haruhi to catch on. honestly I think the reason you don't hate them comes down to the fact that they do mean well, they're not doing it intentionally... usually, I'm use to their types of character in shojo, there's a lot of semi-obnoxious rich characters in the genre, and characters who could come across as unlikeable at times if you didn't get to know them, it's what makes them well rounded.
