What I took from this is that the dark side is so alien to The Jedi on the council that they forgot how to sense it coupled with Palpatine suppressing their minds. On top of which they ignore that the dark side exists within all of them and since its presence is basically foreign to them, they'd never know it was influencing them. I also think their code of no attachments was a mistake. I think I said this in a previous episode, but Jedi supress emotion too much while Sith go to extremes through emotions like hatred and anger. It's not a yin and yang thing, but merely two extremes. The Jedi are too scared of falling to the dark side that they unintionally gave it the camouflage it needed to make them think as it likes. The Dark side is kind of like a tumor that manifests itself and spreads everywhere. Funny that you saying lust made me think as well of how the 7 deadly sins are not inherently bad, just too much of them inside one's mind is when it becomes a problem. We're all naturally tempted by each of them, but if we supress them completely we cease to be human, much like how Father from FMA:B discarded his "flaws" to become "perfect" when all he did was turn himself into an uncaring soulless husk. Jedi likewise suppress what they think is the darkside and thus it becomes a stranger and sneaks into their minds and hides within them as an imposter.

Add to that that they built the fucking Jedi Temple on Coruscant on an ancient Sith shrine and you've got a very good recipe for becoming desensitized to the dark side on top of all that. Lots of small(er) mistakes over millenia do add up ^^

What is happening is that these Scary Movie reject aliens find the pathway to immortality in the force ghosts. It explains why Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin are sparkly glowing in the end of Episode 6. Weird seeing good Dooku when we have been seeing a Dooku running away from every battle.
