It would probably be a good idea to see the phantom menace and attack of the clones to see the origin of most of these characters. Revenge of the sith you would probably be better off saving until after the show's over though

Maul is obviously hinting at having more background knowledge of how the Clone Wars were manufactured than most people. But he also hasn't gotten any updates since he was cut in half, so it's interesting so see how he chooses to operate. Also, while Savage never really seemed to know what to do on his own, Maul definitely knows how to make long-term plans, making him much more dangerous on top of his obvious skill and ferocity in battle.
