You know I wonder if goku already had his saiyan hack of getting stronger everytime he comes back cause honestly that pulls a lot of weight in goku's growth in strength, I just don't know if toriyama had thought of it by this point.

I don't think Goku needed a Zenkai to win. Just the food and rest. Tambourine is probably Yamcha uninjured level. Maybe a bit higher since he beat Krillin but still weaker than Tien. We know Tien didn't get a zenkai and Tien does enough against stronger people then Tambourine this arc for it to be clear he could have beat Tambourine.
