Before anyone @ me, I’m just going to state what are the facts. I don’t care what you call Yamato. Yamato is CONFIRMED as a Female. For a while there was a heated debate about Yamato being a female or a transgender. The most recent One Piece databook finally acknowledged Yamato’s gender. However throughout the story Yamato is referred with male Him-He pronouns. The anime actually does it more frequently than the manga. The reason why Yamato is being referenced with male pronouns is because she wants to be like Oden. Now the importance about this is Yamato is not identifying as Oden so she can be a man, Yamato identifies as Oden as an Honorific Title. It’s not about gender for Yamato, she idolizes Oden to the highest regard and chooses to attribute Oden as a characteristic. That’s why Yamato tells Luffy “I’m more Oden than you!”. She is evaluating “How Oden” a person is through their will and personality as an individual. It has nothing to do with gender. That’s why her introduction bubble says Kaido’s Daughter and “Self Proclaimed Oden”. Obviously people are free to refer to Yamato in anyway they want, I don’t care and no one else should. I just brought this topic up this one time to present what are the facts. And everyone is free to choose how to interpret it. Last thing anyone wants is people getting riled up over a controversial topic.
