This was my "Kabuto traitor' reveal. I was like "oh ye Focking traitors dick kanjuro" I'm the beginning I was mad but as I thought over it since it's original reveal in the manga, it kinda makes sense in hindsight. Ever since we met Kanjuro I always felt something off about him. Never knew what it was but for some reason I mistrusted him. But then the whole Raizo is safe thing happened I'm Zou that I laid to rest that mistrust. Then we got to Wano, and it came back again. Simply because of how in the hell orochi and Kaido knew of the alliance plans. I was like "how do you know this?" It even happened with Oden. Then we got orochi saying there's a traitor within Oden's crew and my suspicion of Kanjuro grew, especially with Orochi saying that "he will play a kozuki retainer and die for Oden until I tell him to stop" That screamed Kanjuro to me since Kanjuro is modeled as a Japanese Kabuki actor. Then we got the reveal and I yelled out "I Focking knew it!!" Before getting mad. It however makes sense for Kanjuro to betray them. Think about it lad, a young impressionable boy watching his parents being murdered in front of him would literally break him and drive his very existence for vengeance. Then finding Orochi, someone who hates the people of Wano as much as him, of course he would ally himself to him an hurt Wano and the kozuki where it hurts them the most. In all honesty, Wano brought this upon themselves. Orochi, Kaido, and even Kanjuro we're brought upon themselves by Wano itself for what it did to the entire Korozuni clan. They literally murdered everyone in it for the actions of one of their ancestors. Think about it lad, men, women, elderly, and even children were murdered by wano. Now I'm not saying this absolves Orochi for what he's done. I do however get why he's doing what he's doing and why Kanjuro betrayed everyone. Whew that was a long rant.

Kanjuro is such a piece of shit. I get the revenge angle, but there is a point where you need to consider what stance you've taken along the way. Oda did leave little hints along the way though, my favourite one being how nonchalant Kanjuro was about Momo's safety when we first see him in dressrosa, it didn't seem odd at the time, but given the reaction that the others had and what they'd been through, it sticks out a lot on a rewatch.

Luffy looks so FUCKING COOL with a cape. I hope he keeps it after Wano.

*Among Us Alert button is pressed* So our suspects were Kin'emon, Kanjuro, Raizo, Dogstorm, Catviper, Okiku, Denjiro, Kawamatsu, Shinobu, and Ashura Off the bat we can eliminate Kawamatsu; he would have sold out Hiyori, not damn near kill himself to keep her alive. Likewise, Denjiro kept Hiyori safe and took care of her and even gave her an out if worse came to worse. If he were loyal to Orochi, he'd have actually killed Hiyori, not fake her death. Plus we had hints that he hated Orochi. Ashura can likewise be eliminated as he had no idea where Momo was and thought Hiyori was dead. Plus he did not know Raizo was at Zou. Catviper and Dogstorm nearly died keeping Raizo safe; so they're out. Plus they had no idea where Kin, Kanjuro, or Momo were. Shinobu likewise had no idea Momo and co. were alive until Kin'emon arrived at Wano with Law and the other Strawhats. This leaves our timetravelers aka Okiku, Kanjuro, Raizo, and Kin'emon I felt that Okiku was clear as she was still stuck in Wano, but the MAIN clue is this; How did Jack know Raizo was at Zou? If it were Dogstorm or Catviper, they'd have sold him out. Okiku did not know where he was. Nor did anyone else except Kin, Raizo himself, and Kanjuro. Or rather, they knew he was at Zou, but did not know where Zou itself was as the elephant moves. Still, Jack found Zou. How? Vivre card! Only 3 other people could have had one of his; Momo, Kin'emon, & Kanjuro Raizo could not be selling out info while he was confined in that cave and if he were the informant, why would Kaido and Orochi go that far to hunt him down? On top of that, he did not know that Momo and Kin'emon were at Punk Hazard or Dressrosa. This leaves us with Kanjuro and Kin'emon. I strongly doubted it was Kin'emon as he was the architect of both the raid and had chances to off Momo if he so wanted. Orochi did proclaim that his spy was willing to die for the cause(he nearly died when Oden was being boiled), so Kin'emon would not have cared if his life ended for the sake of serving Orochi. This also goes for Catviper and Dogstorm. Thus it had to have been Kanjuro. Kanjuro knew where Raizo was. He knew Momo was alive. He knew that they traveled 20 years into the future; the very thing Orochi had grown paranoid over.(Although I guess it's not paranoia if they're actually after you XD) Kanjuro also knew the plan was altered by Yasuie's martyrdom and was not just him trolling Orochi. The sad fact is that Kanjuro is not really betraying them as he was never on their side to begin with. He was a planted mole. But now the tides have turned! (No pun intended) Luffy and Co. seem to have been tipped off by someone, else they'd have been killed or at least barred from partaking in the raid. My speculation as of this episode was that Denjiro told Hiyori who told Zoro, who then told Luffy and the rest. Denjiro was almost always by Orochi's side, who else both had the motive and intel to provide to those attempting to overthrow the false Shogun?

I knew this was gonna hit. Nothing Curtis hates more than a traitor. Well except Arlong

Double post: I really love that Law and Luffy appeared as they did. Luffy like he is Gol D. Roger 2.0 and Law looking similar to Corazon. Also if I had a battle theme for the upcoming conflict It'd be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS55Laq5n3U

SpazBoysComedy

Yup! Being a big fan of loyalty and camaraderie, this shoots Kanjuro up there with Orochi in the "need to see him die" category!

Only thing I have to say is “Fuck Kanjuro”

Kanjuro is naturally right handed but when he was playing his character as Oden's retainer he's using his left hand for everything that's why all his drawings were bad

V_VMat

It's a circle of hatred that's been extrapolated to top! ONE Kurozumi acts out of line and then X amount of "justice warriors" hunt the whole clan down. Which leads some individual survivors (Orochi, hag, old guy and Kanjuro) to want to get revenge for the whole country... It explains their actions but doesn't condone it. (both Kurozumi and JWs)

V_VMat

My first guess for the spy would have been Raizo, followed by Denjiro (until episode 976) then Kanjuro and Ashura Doji Kin'emon*, Kiku, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi and Kawamatsu didn't seem to fit for the role. *Kin'emon was out mostly because he's too stupid and active for the raid 😅

Even his bad drawings (his most endearing quality) were a ruse. Kanjuro can die in a fire.

It didn't work but you got to give it to Kin, he went right for Kanjuro's head. I respect the attempt.

I think there was an oversight in the last episode that made it obvious that it was Kanjuro. Orochi said that the spies parents were actors. Kanjuro is designed to look like a Kabuki (a type of stage play actor in Japan), the One Piece audience especially in Japan would have noticed that and it would have taken away from the reveal. I might be wrong but if someone were to really examine that piece of info and known about Kabuki theaters it would have been obvious.

I gotta say this is the one time where i can't hate a turncoat. Firstly because 1. He played the ultimate long con, i gotta have some respect for his ability, the dude was fully willing and ready to die in his role. and 2. I never thought much of Kanjuro to begin with. He was a character that was used for comedic relief like twice, and then nothing else. Quite frankly, while Oda did great at not making us see who the spy was, the reveal was sorta underwhelming due to it being a pretty underwhelming character.

Chris Richardson

Bonding with a small group like that for several years and showing zero remorse after getting Oden killed and making Kuri suffer for 20 years is fucked up..

i8Grapes

If you interested Artur from the library of Ohara put every single clue and hint that Oda left since punk hazard about Kanjuro being the traitor. https://onepiecethenewworld.files.wordpress.com/2020/03/one-piece-chapter-971-analysis-copy-16-3.png

After this reveal, I was rewatching one piece with my mom and my brother once they got to dressrosa, and I had to reanalyze Kanjuro's character now knowing that he was acting, and there are some things that he does that seemed so small and didn't seem important, that now feel so clever and subtle, and give more depth to his role in the show, like how he he could draw food for people but it would give them a stomach ache, and how he made the ladder coming out of the pit in dressrosa really poorly, and how the animals he would draw were so slow and barely functioned like the dragon climbing up the side of Zou. He was "helping", but he was also intentionally slowing them down. Much as I now hate him, he was the only one of the samurai that was lacking something to his character, and this honestly felt so fitting once you realize he was acting the whole time

DevilJynx

Ooooo I just did the episode tally weekday vs episode. Monday's reaction is gonna be lit!!!
