And now you begin probably one of my favourite arcs in the entire series. Shion is a character I deeply empathize with. She's got a sibling she's basically got to live in the shadow of (Mion). And an unrequited crush, that she wishes was more. Those are very human emotions to feel. The problem is that this being Higurashi, she has to take it to the most extreme and insane extent possible. In this case doing something incredibly horrible to a child, not only that the sister of the person she loves. A sister whose harm would hurt him more than anything else in the whole world. It's all an incredibly tragic situation.

Sibling relationships in this town are always so hopeful and heartwarming, wouldn't it be nice if everyone had a familial relationship like Higurashi's? Day 16 in Hinamizawa.
