Okay so the Big Mom scene in Onigashima is important for two reasons: 1) Big Mom wanted King to join her crew because King’s race is VERY special, he’s got wings like the Sky Island people but his race is extinct. King’s heritage is extremely important. 2) It was said Big Mom and Kaido were once on the same pirate crew. This is VERY important as well and you will learn more about it in a few more episodes. Just know Garp had already spoke about this old school pirate crew during the Reverie. Lots of good things are about to go down!

When Kawamatsu did not recognize Hiyori I was all "come on dude, isn't it obvious?" but then I remembered it had been close to 20 years since he'd seen her last. If Luffy can master Ryuo, then he can certainly become a contender worthy to beat Kaido as well as Big Mom; if you remember, Big Mom has a tough exterior that Bege pointed out. They needed to distress her enough and her shell will "recede", though they overdid it. If Luffy can use Ryuo, then that aspect of both Emperors will no longer matter as he can destroy them from within. Not that it is a guarantee given how strong the two are. But yes as random minion #534 pointed out, Kaido and Big Mom used to be crewmates. One has to wonder who would be strong enough to keep those two as subordinates.
