Now Zoro has two battles to fight at once... He is, however, just the man for the job!

So I actually told you about it back when it was talked about in thriller bark, but ryuma was actually a character that oda created for a one shot he made titled "Monsters" where in it he killed a dragon and where the legend of ryuma stems from in one piece history. It's a really good read, if you have the time I'd suggest you read it. It was also confirmed by oda back in a sbs in vol 47 and this was the question Question: Is the swordsman "Ryuma" who was once said to have defeated a dragon the very same Ryuma that starred in the short story "Monsters" from your collection volume entitled "Wanted!"? Where he confirmed they were in fact the same character.

Kamui

this woman is very familiar xD

Kamui

Ryuma was really a goat. He stopped the nobles that tried to invade Wano and branded the "image of a samurai" into the minds of everyone in the world: Zoro met Ryuma in Thriller Bark, but that was just his corpse with the soul of Brook. Not the actual Ryuma. Anyway Ryuma is awesome and his title as "God of the Blade" as well :DDD

Aidan

I know I'm in the minority with this, and I might even get some hate here, but Zoro doesn't deserve or even have the right to wield Shusui. He never earned it. All he did was take it from Ryuma's corpse. And no that wasn't Ryuma, that was his corpse with Brooks personality. I personally am of the belief in anime a sword is either given, earned, or forged to a swordman. Imo Shusui belongs in Wano and the only reason Zoro has it was because moria stole it from Wano many years ago. For this fight I agree with the weapons collector. I like Zoro but he doesn't deserve Shusui. Also oh lad you have no idea how close you are to finding out what's behind Otoko's constant smiling. Also watch out for Kamazo lad, he's a natural born Killer.

Noah

Oh man that was good, wish I thought of it.

SpazBoysComedy

Yea, I am of the same mind set as Dandy. To a pirate, earning it would be beating whoever's ass is necessary to take it.

Aeco

Remember the only other swordsman we know of who wields a black blade (Mihawk)? That alone should indicate how strong Ryuma must have been. :D It seems to be quite difficult for blades to become black blades, and the mechanisms behind it are quite mysterious as well.

Was running errands so I am a little late to explain this earlier today Okay this is very very important, so please just bare with me as I explain this; WANO AND SKY ISLAND ARE RELATED The weapons collector stated that Wano was previously protected by Ryuma because Wano was once called THE LAND OF GOLD We know another island from a VERY long time ago that had important ties to gold.... Sky Island had THE CITY OF GOLD Remember Noland The Liar went to The City of Gold BEFORE it got shoot up to Sky Island; that was 400 Years Ago. Around the same time Ryuma was still alive protecting Wano from nobles trying to take their gold. Similarly how in pre timeskip Enel (Electric Eminem) took all the Gold from Sky Island for his giant flying ship. Yet here’s the twist nobody from Sky Island knew the importance and value of the gold, unlike people from the Blue Sea So all of this is VERY important because it implies that at some point in the past more than 400 years ago; Wano with The Land of Gold was able to move Gold and create The City of Gold in Jaya (which is now currently in Sky Island)

Lewd Angel

That feels like a severe stretch based on nothing more than the similarity between names, also, Wano would've still been closed off to the world 400 years ago like it is today, why on earth would they transport gold to this random island on the other side of the world just to build a city there and then leave no discernable connections between them? I feel like you're so used to Oda shoving foreshadowing in every single inch of this series that you're now making connections where they don't exist tbh

Lewd Angel

But one also has to consider, Zoro isn't your typical pirate either, i wonder whether his own sense of honor as a swordsman would win out over his selfishness as a pirate, or if he'd just justify it to himself somehow?

DevilJynx

I kind of wish Zoro would kick the sword collector in the nuts and shout "unguarded!" Even in spite of him having a valid reason for keeping Ryuma's sword.

SpazBoysComedy

Yup! I agree on both points. He has a valid argument for keeping the sword from Zoro, but the "unguarded!" crap is definitely nut-kick worthy! 😄
