While Johan is a brilliant psychopath, it appears that it's Bonaparta who is the true string-puller!!

I’ve always wondered that too. Monster is easily one of the best anime’s with one of the best antagonist of all times. The only thing I can think of that would turn people off a show like this, is the art style. It looks very old for a show that was made in 2004. That might turn people away. But I think the art style is perfect as it fits the time period quite well in my opinion!

If I had to guess it probably has a lot to do with it being overshadowed by Death Note. Both Anime released pretty close together Monster ending its run in Japan in 2005, while Death Note started the next year. With a more modern (for the time) style of animation compared to Monster. Though honestly Monster in my opinion is the superior of the two.

That’s also true! I was looking up to see where monster ranked it is 29 on myanimelist. And i also think it’s a shame that the live adaptation of this show never got to be. It was supposed to happen. This one of the maybe the few anime’s that could be a really good live series!

Hmm, that’s a good observation; I didn’t realize they were so close… Damn. I’d hate to have to decide which of those two I like better. They are both SO elite to me!

Monster manga ended in 2001, I think the reason why this show isn't as recognized as Death Note now because it is a new era of anime fans and Monster isn't available on legal streaming sites. When I was growing up Monster was always mentioned much more Death Note. I honestly feel that Death Note is a softcore version of Monster. The only major difference is there isn't any supernatural elements involved with this series and that's accredit to Urasawa's masterful writing.

If you follow Urasawa's other stories we should be expecting an anime adaptation of Pluto and 20th Century Boys by 2023. So there's somethings to look forward

I actually just got done reading “another monster” the other week! Really enjoy Urasawa’s writing! So I am definitely looking forward to some more!!

Another Monster is Canon, yeah if this is your first time reading Urasawa then I HIGHLY recommend Pluto, 20TH Century Boys, and his newest story Billy Bat. I would honestly put Urasawa has a better writer than guys like Miura, Oda, and Togashi. Pure genius 👏
