These uhh squid things, I believe they are heavily based on a DC hive mind, world dominating species. I don't know their name or complete history but I do know that in DC these things were Triangle organisms that attached to DC heroes faces and controlled them. It was a big comic event and from what i know of Invincible's comics and animated tv show we will be seeing them more later on.
