I didn't think I would, but the entirety of the backstory with her sister really got to me!

It basically shows how different people deal with shitty situations, some just try and deal with it while others fight back. And Maki is officially best girl of the series now, zero cursed energy but still chose to live a life of fighting curses she can't even see just to show her family that she could. That and she can literally beat curses to death with just her fists.

So basically, what Mai was talking about was because Maki decided to go against the clan's ways, the clan leader also pushed Mai into becoming a sorcerer. It's not really explained what happened, but I assume that while Mai originally was treated as a lowly servant before, Maki leaving made the entire clan treat her like absolute shit. The only way she could get away from them was to do something she never wanted, and that was to become a Sorcerer and be forced into a life where she had to battle against curses.

Mai is actively in a career that she doesn't enjoy, facing things she'd be more than happy to not face. Maki isn't evil for wanting more than the life she was dealt, but at the same time, Mai isn't pathetic or weak for not wanting to break the mold and fight the structural issues of a centuries old clan. I really liked this episode

They made you feel bad for Mai, but don't worry, you can still hate the head of the clan for making the twins' lives miserable!

When Miwa was explaining her iai-skill, it reminded me of certain character from Rakudai Kishi. That clan head of Zen'in clan looks a bit like Heihachi. After reading other's replies Maki/Mai situation reminds me of someone else from Rakudai Kishi.
