Date went to Mexico, and learned the definition of "El Finito"

In terms of Date being old, I think fighters can peak at different ages. I also think it's more physical wear and tear than pure age. I separated from the Army in my early 30's because my ankle was torn up and I was developing respiratory problems. I got out before they got too bad, And I knew guys who had already had multiple surgeries on ankles, back and knees. Rough works wears you down.

Absolutely. My only point is, this whole general concept of 28 being "old" I think is completely off-base. At any age, a person can accumulate injuries that diminish effectiveness, but the vibe I've gotten here is that, at 28, it's time to start thinking about retirement home plans. :-D

I thought Date was just being dramatic about his age, but it turns out everyone thinks 29 is pushing it too. It makes me wonder if the author read a study or something that said 30 or so was old for boxers and incorporated it without doing much more research.

The author was a boxer and owns his own gym. Its probably just from personal experience.

So just in case you didn't catch it, the champ that rocked Date is still undefeated at this point. A world champ holding the title for nearly a decade at this point, no spoilers but my man is a monster.

Date wife's MAD apron reminds me of the old Inspector Gadget cartoon. Wait, Date's wife is a MAD agent?! Someone call Gadget!

I interpreted "fists are light" as when you're champion you have more to protect. Date saying that to ippo is basically saying there's less at stake if Ippo loses. and the motivation of that is the extra strength Date and Takamura get as Champions
