Season 2 was recently announced!!! The animation studio was attacked by an arsonist in 2019, with some staff passing away. However, they have rebuilt the studio and I believe this will be one of their first projects they've done after the tragedy.

a thing to note here that is really important you understand: back when kyoani was making this they had no idea that the series would be popular enough to get a second season, thus they felt the need to rearrange the series of events as well as making a few other changes in order to give their one season a climactic finale. thus the whole exchange between tohru, kobayashi and her father was moved to the end of the season and turned into a much bigger event than it was in the manga, where the whole exchange starts and ends with the scene where tohru, her father and miss kobayashi meet at kobayashis place, basically the moment he realizes that he isn't changing anyones mind, he respects that and fucks off. this is me trying to make sure you don't hate the man any more than you need to in case season two actually ends up featuring his much more chill personality from the manga.

My favourite part of this episode was how they showed how much Kobayashi ended up depending on Tohru. Once she left it was clear things were falling apart, the only difference from before Tohru arrived was the added responsibility of taking care of Kanna. Even when the pair settled into a routine without Tohru you could still see the effects it had. Kanna basically became a latch-key kid and the apartment became an absolute wreck. Also I can't wait to see Kobayashi explain Tohru and Kanna to her parents. "Mom and Dad this is my lover Tohru, we're both really into Master and Maid roleplay. This is our adopted child Kanna, oh side note they're also dragons."

not getting much into spoilers here but this is how the factions actually roll: when a chaos dragon is hungry, he'll walk into a city, eat the people until he's full and leave. when a harmony dragon is hungry he'll walk into a city, subjugate the population, eat all who disagree and then rule it with an iron fist and demanding human sacrifices and the only thing the people get out of this deal is that the harmony dragon is hopefully strong enough to fight of a hungry chaos dragon.
