Having seen her history, and knowing she doesn't have Devil Fruit abilities, I'm scared Rebecca is overmatched here!

Hey, don’t go underestimating Rebecca just because she lost to Luffy, you seem to forget that he’s a pretty high bar to pass. Not to mention that Rebecca didn’t really want to hurt Luffy. And Toy Soldier’s training definitely was not lazy.

None of the underestimation is due to anything you outlined. It's simply because I've seen the ridiculous powers - many of them Devil Fruit inspired - of others, and have yet to see anything in Rebecca's past that makes me believe she can stand up to that... If there's more to her abilities, I'm all for it!

Watching the training scene made me think of Rakudai Kishi (or Chivalry of a Failed Knight as it's English title is). I think Curtis would like that series!

I was right there with Bartolemeo telling the crowd to fuck off after this episode. Even if their hatred for King Riku is warranted, Rebecca was a small child at the time.

Rebecca is quite possibly one of my least liked characters in the show, that isn't a villain at least. I just couldn't bring myself to care about her at all, i actually feel like her entire character and everything revolving around it should've been cut out of the arc. Her backstory is a carbon copy of Nami's and Robins, single mom dying for her daughter, who then proceeds to have a difficult life. Beyond her eye candy design theres really not anything interesting about her to me I personally wish Viola was given more attention than her, her character and situation were far more interesting imo.

I must disagree. While the dead mother is a similarity between all three, the focal point of Rebecca's is the relationship with Soldier and the tragedy of ten years ago, something neither of the others have. It's hard to discuss though without major spoilers for the arc. But I think all three hit on very different tragedies despite that one point of similarity.
