This is a really pretty anime, and I like the concept of Vinland being their ultimate goal!

The soundtrack for this series is enchanting. And the author really did his homework on the time period when making the series. It's one of the greats.

It is worth mentioning that the people, places and timeline are pretty much all based on reality. Vikings did also know about vinland(Which means wine land(The markland he names means field land)). It is where the vikings made landfall in america, more than likely newfoundland. Oh and the whole sis sleeping with her brother is about keeping warm, they are living on freaking iceland. On the slavery subject, slaves were held from any nation, including other nords. There were a lot of ways to end up that way, but it generally included getting sold by people in another country, being there when vikings raided you or being a criminal. Finally, jormungandr was the world serpent in norse mythology and it being able to swallow ships would be a sign of the end of the world, as it usually spent its time lying around the world, swallowing its own tail... Giggity.

The whole giving up the sheep was a moral choice. He stopped the guy from being tortured and he stopped the guy becoming a message to the other slaves of what happens. He basically put his morality above his own wealth.

So glad you're finally watching this, and you're right we have been talking about it since the old days of reaction streams. However the Anime didn't even exist back then, only the Manga. I'm pretty sure someone sent you a copy of the first volume in one of the unboxing vids. Also fun fact the English word Slave actually comes from Slav the ethnic group that makes up most of Eastern Europe. The Vikings took so many of them like the guy who died at the end of this episode as slaves. That Slavs became synonymous with slavery first in Old Norse and later in English.

I'm pretty sure that if you find a slave buried in the snow it's legally yours, especially if you are as hot as the sister. That's totally a law in Iceland.
