It's been REALLY fun seeing the origins of these legendary characters, and they don't come any more legendary than Yamcha!  :-D

Same here. I just love seeing familiar characters like Yamcha and the Ox King make their debut here. Also, it seems that so far the DBZ gang start off as assholes. Only Master Roshi and Bulma have been friendly, even though the latter has her own motives.

They really did yamcha dirty, dbz basically castrated him. Took his girl, his money, and not even powerful enough to be a superhero .

If you haven’t noticed with Oolong, his early appearances have him wearing the militia outfit. This is because Toriyama is poking fun of the Chinese Communist party, during the Korean War and how Chinese people were viewed as pigs. Yamcha’s early character design was based off a character named Tangtong from Toriyama’s original work, Dragon Boy. Look up the character and you’ll see how the face and hair resembles Yamcha. Toriyama took quite a few ideas from this original series and represented them into the early days of Dragon Ball.

It's so easy to forget how cool some of these characters were in original DB. Interesting, at least, if not cool.

There's just something so special about the OG Dragon Ball. I can't quite put my finger on it. Bulma's little "piggy" trick reminded me of something: Hope you get around to Inuyasha at some point. It's another one of those classic, beloved series (and a LOT of people's first anime if Dragon Ball didn't get to them first).
