always like how he didnt commit treason in this one to pass the exam. you know in fmab i always felt if you attack the leader of the country during a exam, that is more of assassination attempt.

Poor Al. I also adore the fact we get a look into his inability to join the military. Even a passing mention in FMAB would have sufficed -- and then the part where he's crying in bed. I'm surprised he even bothers laying down. Lots of free time to read and shit if he wanted. That must be boring just laying down every night with your thoughts.

One of the things i've always liked more about FMA (2003), when compared to FMAB, is that not only do we the viewers get to spend more time with some of the characters, but so do Edward and Alphonse: NIna get's to be in more than just one episode. Then there is Maes Hughes and his family, when they first met them in FMAB Elicia was already 2 or 3 years old, where as in FMA where they get to witness her being born (On the same day as Ed's birthday no less)

I think one great bit of irony, that you can see from the episodes so far, is that FMA03 is more about brothers than Brotherhood. You can see it in this episode because the brothers are motivated by each other. In Brotherhood Ed attacks the head of state, shows that he has balls, and then becomes a state alchemist. In this, we see why Ed is even an alchemist at all. Edward as an alchemist isn't searching for some scientific notion of truth, but it is placed front and center that he becomes a state alchemist for the sake of his brother. Yes, this theme is still in brotherhood, but it is located centrally in 03.
