Aizen is starting his transformation of the ultimate villain. You can't help but appreciate the depth of his character and how subtle the changes have been throughout the series.

Gin and Rangiku share a bond that's never really looked into too profoundly, you are left to interpret if its love, deep friendship, etc. Infact the only time he was serious and even a little sad was when he said bye to Rangiku at the end of the "rescue rukia arc" befor the three were lifted up tu hueco mundo. I like that they don't delve into their relationship too much, although its sad, its kept mysterious. All we see is the surface, just like Gins character in general.

I personally think that they are "siblings", like Rukia and Renji, as that was common in Rukon District, since it was extremely difficult to find their actual family. It isn't really stated what Aizen did to her but it is hinted at that it was a piece of her soul he had taken, which he then fed to the Hogyoku he created. She would probably be a Captain by now, had that not happened, since Hitsugaya and Gin both became Captains.
