So now would be a good time to talk about Kyouko and Mami's backstory since they didn't have time for it in the anime, but it was released as a Drama Cd along with the anime DVD's and are considered canon. I'll try to make this short. So as Kyouko said, she started happily fighting witches in the background to "save the world" like a regular hero comic. One day she goes to fight a witch and gets into trouble, but she gets saved by Mami. They both agreed that the most important thing is protecting everyone and not fighting each other. (Completely contrasting what Kyouko said to Sayaka in their first fight). Kyouko asked to be Mami's apprentice so she could learn how to fight, which Mami happily agreed to since we saw early on in the anime that Mami always wanted a friend. So Kyouko became Mami's first real friend and they teamed up to start fighting together as friends. Now fast forward to when Kyouko's family died, she loses her ideals from this point on and the friendship started to deteriorate since now Kyouko didn't care about saving people anymore like Mami did. So now Kyouko decides to leave but Mami stops her, leading into them fighting and Kyouko wins but decides not to kill Mami. Kyouko leaves to be alone and Mami is also then left alone in tears over losing her first friend. This was about as short as I could make it lol but it's just great info to have about these 2. This also explains why Kyouko was pissed off about Sayaka blaming her for Mami's death, it seems like Kyouko still cared for Mami deep down.

I wouldn't say Kyubey strikes again when it comes to Kyoko. She did want her father to be taken seriously, wished for exactly that. and Kyubey did give her EXACTLY what she wanted. No loopholes, hidden tricks or anything, at least when it came to the wishes themselves. Kyoko didn't blame him because she was aware, even with the best of intentions, she hadn't considered her father's perspective or what he would've wanted. Granted, she takes it a bit far in deciding to live only for herself, but that's her own way of coping, of making sense of everything that's going on. Not to say that her father isn't responsible for the death of her family, or that Kyubey isn't for the other things in regards to being a magical girl, but the latter is honest when it comes to granting their wishes. The results of them, though, are more in the hands of the ones who wished for them, even as manipulative as Kyubey is at times.
