Neptune was probably pretty badass in his prime, but he's 70 now and in dire need of an orthopedist. Too bad we don't get to see how strong he might have once been.

I think you're somewhat underestimating the situation due to the 2 year timeskip/training time. Regardless of how strong the strawhats have gotten, they are completely out of their element in the sea, fishmen are stronger than humans 10x by default, devil fruit powers are weakened by the sea and as a cherry on top, the doofus tag team has the steroid drugs that double their power with each one. Im guessing its simply due to the personalities and the way they were portrayed that you just don't think Hordy and the others stand a chance against the new strawhats, because theres a mountain of evidence that theres reason to be concerned about engaging these new antagonists

Yeah, it's definitely because Hody is dargerous opponent. Nothing else 😂 (And yes, his name is Hody Jones, Funimation for whatever reason just wants to translate it 'Hordy')

Don't forget that because they didn't enter normally, nobody is even aware tongue bitch exists. So as far as they can tell, there are no other possible suspects for the mermaid kidnappings.
