I swear, in anime it seems like almost all the time nice guys in anime seem to either end up either dead or secretly assholes. And it's always RIGHT AFTER they were being really nice to some cute character. If you ever find yourself an anime character, it's probably best to incorporate at least minor levels of asshole into your personality as a safety measure against sudden death.

Or atleast make sure to never allow your story to reach any sort of conclusion or major high-point. When things are going either average or badly you are safe, but the moment things go well you are pretty fucked. Though first you should walk around and check for a few signs. If someone keeps disappearing, running out or doing strange things then you are likely to be in a combat anime. SO you should stay the fuck away from that guy. If some guy is constantly surrounded by cute girls that like him, i would probably either give up on those girls or stay on the periphery, hoping he stops pulling them along at some point. If a ton of unexplained murders are happening then you are likely in some kind of battle royale or horror story. You need to look really carefully at the most and least outstanding person you know as one or both will more than likely be involved, probably as protagonist and antagonist. If this is the horror/monster deal then you are likely fucked. If it is a battle royale then get away and keep tabs on them via the internet. There are more possible setups, but these are a good cross section.

Goddammit. Today only Code Geass was the one I didn't try to open the picture. Well at first I didn't open Bleach one either, but when I tried to watch the episode at first Mega didn't cooperate and I went to do something else for awhile. LOL you prob already know by now Curtis but just in case you don't the guys that have the white robes on over the black are the captains and the ones with the armbands are the lieutenants, since you said at a certain point that you couldn't keep track on captains hope this helps !

About your plan to avoid filler... You will run into a complication down the road but I'm sure people here will be able to explain it when the time comes. But basically, there is a filler arc that introduces a few characters that will be in non-filler episodes. If you skip the filler, they'll seem to appear out of nowhere. But i'm sure the comment section will fill you in once you get there.. I just wanted to give you a heads up about it.
