There are many questions. Most will be answered in time. But yeah, it is a pretty fantastic first episode, especially since they really dont waste a single scene.

You'll notice Britannia is based out of North America. They don't explain this in the show, but in this series history, the American Revolution failed, and then later when Great Britain was attacked, the nobles fled to the colonies there. So that's why what we know as the US and Canada are referred to as Britannia, that's basically the center of the Empire

A easy way I try to define this series for new watcher. Think death note but more mechs and fanservice and less book power but more eye power.

Yes we dont know her wish Lelouch agreed to and IIRC he doesnt either its basically a blind contract get power and live but not know all the terms of it or die with no power.

I think Lelouch is the kind of protagonist you're going to enjoy quite a lot. As you can see, he's more from the Wolfwood school of thought than the Vash school of though. This is a series with a lot of moving cogs and pieces. But everything will come together before the end into one glorious whole. But more importantly, plenty of top tier waifus as well. This will probably be my fifth time watching this series and it's just as exciting as always.

They control the entire Americas, both north and south. Along with some islands including Japan at the start of the series. You can see it in the world map they show at the start.

Code Geass has an all-star cast. Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, Chris Sabot, Steve Blum, Kate Higgins, Karen Strassman... The list goes on but it's just chock full of voice talent.

Personally, I'm glad you went with the dub... Just because that's how I first watched it. That's really the extent of my sub vs dub preferences. I do have to wonder though... Do you remember reacting to Code Ment all those years ago? Your line about how you'd remember Kallen if you'd seen her before just made me laugh. ^^

I think you'll find that Lelouch is a lot like Light from Death Note... except not a massive dickhead. You'll probably sympathize a lot with the decisions he needs to make. I don't remember most of this series --- but I know it never drops pace. I can't wait to experience it again with everyone!

It will be interesting to see how much (if anything) you remember from watching CodeMENT back in the day. not that CodeMENT really followed the plot at all.

as others said he made an open ended contract. she never said what it is. this show for all its fun moments sometimes usually has a few dozen threads of story twisting around in the background that slowly comes together sometimes only a little later sometimes much much later. Two direct comments in particular in this episode which I wont state have implications as far out as the shows finale lol

Was so caught up in watching the One Piece and Bleach reactions that I didn't notice this little gem getting started! This is gonna be one hell of a ride! Also, not sure if you have subtitles on but a funny thing about those mechs is that they're spelled "Knightmares" and not "Nightmares", feeding into the whole royalty theme (I honestly thought they were "Nightmares" for the longest time until I saw it written down).

I've been out of the loop for awhile, Had no idea you even started on Code Geass haha xD Welp, time to catch up! Regardless. I hope you are having fun watching it! it's most certainly up there in my top ten anime series :D
