I think most anime fans are about as sick of Sasuke as you are by this point. His motivations have never been terribly well written.

Fun fact: The anime added in a lot of cool extra scenes to This fight (that includes the use of kirin) and is way more enjoyable than the manga's.

Curtis that lightning technique that sasuke used is called kirin. He used that on itachi

If you didn't understand that big lightning from the sky: It was Sasuke's Jutsu. The same that he used against Itachi. It doesn't require chakra, but limited to 1 blow. Supposedly the strongest lightning style justu, since it utilizes the mother nature. It's called Kirin.

Not necessarily, it's fairly common in people with PTSD to exhibit the behavior Sasuke is here. His motivation doesn't mean much in that context.

Yeah sasuke's solution was impractical and crazy, even if founded in logic. It was barely different to what Pain and Madara wanted to do. I do agree that Kishimoto overdid Sasuke's edge in Shippuden to the point he just became like a whiney little kid

And while itachi still is the mvp for me, he fucked up sasuke too badly, even if Sasuke's reaction was over the top

Feel like Sasuke is in no position to play the peace card,sure he has the power,but literally all the five villages were after him at one point and he's caused way more harm then good,and now you want peace?,feel like he's just another Madara,but instead of putting all people in the Infinite Dream,he just wants to hit the reset button.

That flashback is just beautiful and really special. I love sasuke so personally I was rooting some what for him but really just an overall good fight. By the way the creator of naruto has come out saying he believe in sasuke plan over naruto being optimistic.

sasuke is the biggest badass in the show in terms of fighting (apart from madara) but he's such a whiney prick it's hard to appreciate it

Many people here seem to miss Sasuke's point. He isn't trying to kill all the previous leaders and somehow delete the memories of everyone. He won't take their freedom away from them. His idea is that he'll become another Madara. A person hated by the entire world, and the worlds only choice to stop him, will be to be joined together, just as all the villages made an alliance against Madara.

Sad that Naruto is holding himself in that fight, considering he said he's not trying to kill Sasuke. He's way stronger than Sasuke at this point, he was fighting the entire war using full power while Sasuke was only in the final fight, and he still can keep up with him without trying to kill him lol.

That’s his point, he’s willing to be the brunt of hatred for the world. Nagato’s idea was to basically give the whole world nukes and create peace by fear, Madara basically wanted to put the whole world in a dream world, which would’ve created a mandatory peace. As much as Sasuke’s plan sounds off the wall, it’s not as crazy as Nagato’s and Madara’s. Sasuke is right in that his plan, at this point in the story, can create peace. And he has real life examples for him to draw upon for his idea for peace because as we saw the ninja world did get unified by having a common enemy in Nagato and the Akautski, Madara, and Kaguya. Sasuke is a genius at the end of the day and has always been very practical in his thinking, and if I’m being honest, his plan seems much more realistic than Naruto’s. Naruto’s peace relies much more on faith in the system, a system I might add that directly created someone like Sasuke. How do you expect Sasuke to continue to have faith in the same system that killed his clan, sacrificed his brother, and as he learns from the Hokage have been targeted by this same system since the Leaf Village’s earliest years? I completely understand Sasuke’s motivations as much as I understand Naruto’s.

Sasuke's motivations aren't just complete craziness BUT you're not supposed to agree with them. His idea is completely impractical and is a hugely pessimistic one which doesn't really solve anything. I know it's fun to disagree with the popular narrative but to disagree with Naruto's plan and go with Sasuke's is no more than just trying to be edgy tbh, nobody in their right mind would defend Sasuke's plan even if it is somewhat explainable

I understand your point about the system being a failure and Sasuke's motivations are understandable but I don't see how his plan is any better than anyone else's. Unity against a common enemy isn't the same as peace, if that were the case then the 4th Shinobi war wouldn't have been called the 4th Shinobi war. If it were to be peace brought about by a dictatorship, then the maintenance of that peace would be innately oppressive and wouldn't improve the situation at all

My main problem with Naruto's side of the argument is that we don't really see much of an actual plan from Naruto on how he's going to achieve peace other than just getting people to be friends, which is almost as overly optimistic as Sasuke's plan is overly pessimistic.

Are you going to go back and watch some "filler" after you are done with naruto? There are some great arcs such as backstory on itachi/kakashi from their anbu days as well as the whole story about kaguya/indra/ashura/hagoromo.

This fight is probably my favourite of the whole shippuden series. Not only is the animation utterly beautiful and the choreography fantastic but it even shows the progression of the two characters. If you didn’t notice on your first watch Curtis, sasuke can make a chidori instantly without any hand signs, and naruto can form the rasengan with only one hand and doesn’t need clones anymore.

@Toby Points I’m not saying Sasuke’s plan is better or worse than anyone else’s but he’s right when he says he’s probably the closest to anyone in achieving their goal. At this point in the story, all of the Kage and the ninjas from their villages, are all incapacitated right now and there only 3 other people that could stop Sasuke’s goal from coming into fruition, two of them he could kill with very little effort and the only person who would give him trouble is Naruto. This is possibly the best scenario for someone with Sasuke’s motives and power right now, if he wants to overthrow the current regime of the ninja world.

Sasuke's not planning to ruin the world, he wants to do what Itachi did on a Global scale, Itachi killed his clan because they were a threat to the Village and he became known as a traitor and a villain because of that, Itachi was reviled by the village because the everyday person wasn't aware that the Uchiha were about to start a civil war within the Village. So all they saw and thought was "He murdered his friends and family and ran away" Sasuke is trying to do this on a larger scale, he wants to keep everyone united and "safe" by having the whole world continue to see him as the enemy, because he feels like that's the only way peace will be achieved. I imagine it'd be a world where people are like "Well that Rinnegan guy is kind of our overlord and has been for hundreds of years, but he doesn't really cause us any harm unless we attack him or eachother, so..." So while I continue to believe that Sasuke for most of this series was a absolute moron, he actually is trying to do some real good here, he has taken a turn. It's just he's going about it all wrong and doesn't have any faith in any other method because up until now it doesn't seem like anything has really worked, he doesn't want to see more lives ruined by conflict.
