Right, so basically, it's explained in the show later, but I don't know how good a job the dub does at explaining it: "Izuku" is spelled with two Kanji characters with the reading "izu" and "ku", of which the first one can be read as - and is indeed, more commonly read as - "de". Bakugo, his childhood friend/bully, came up with the name Deku one day when he read his name and said that "deku" gives off the vibe of someone who will never amount to anything - he compared it to the word "dekinai" which in Japanese means "cannot" or "incapable" or something along those lines.

Oh, and the bully's name that you struggle to remember is Katsuki (first name) Bakugo (last name). You can call him Katsuki, but because it's a Japanese show, the surname Bakugo is used more commonly, because that's just how Japanese naming customs work - you only call someone by their first name if you're already family or if you're remarkably close. Naruto is actually a bit of an exception in this, everyone calls everyone by their first name all the time, which is very un-Japanese.

Nix they explain it pretty well in the sub as well, it's the most spot on translation of a sub I've seen to date. Of course not everything is going to be spot on but it comes pretty dam close.

Ah, then that's fine. Personally I prefer the sub because Ochako's dub voice rubs me the wrong way a bit, and because I love the smooth ass voice of Suwabe Junichi as Aizawa-sensei. But other than that I think the MHA dub is pretty alright.

So to clarify things for you... 1. There are extra scenes in some episodes. Those extra scenes usually happen after the credits & before the “Next Episode Preview”. 2. Izuku Midoriya is the actual name of the main character. The reason why he is called “Deku” is because in Japanese the verb “Dekiru” means ‘Can Do Anything’. So when Bakugo refers to Midoriya as “Deku” he’s mocking him since Deku is another way of reading his real name Izuku. Deku means "the one who can't achieve/do anything". But this will be sorted out in later episodes.

Deku doesn't necessarily "mean" anything, he's drawing a comparison between "deku" and "dekinai", which is the negated form of "dekiru". Basically he's just making up ways to bully him.

You can go ahead and Call Bakugo "Pussy" but just to let you know to a big chunk of the MHA Fanbase (as well as the Main character) he's called "Kaachan"

Gotcha! I just didn't want you to think I was being a dick to a character that is obviously gonna be pretty important to the story... Thanks for the info on the nickname. I REALLY think I'm gonna like MHA a lot!... And if anyone was actually nicknamed a variation of "Fuck Buddy" it would just increase my love for the series! :-D

I went with dub just because most of the gang told me this one is good either way, and of course, dub is easier for reactions. Any time, though, that you guys feel a sub is clearly superior, I have no problem going that route. For instance, "One Piece" will most definitely be done is sub when we get to it.

Something that you edited out that I think actually has some importance is Bakugo's reaction when his two friends suggested getting into some mischief. He's abrasive and an ass, but Bakugo is very serious about his studies and becoming a hero. As for the later scene with Midoriya at the end, I've always seen that as the first step in him beginning to see Midoriya in a different light. He still has a long way to go of course, but I think the very fact that he sees Midoriya as being in a position to look down on him says something.
