Hello everyone.

I recently tried to see if I could create an anime screen effect in OBS Studio, an attempt to reproduce a screen effect like the one done in Shoost, using only the OBS functionality.

Here is how I actually tried it.

Production Process.

The first step is to adjust the colors. Color correction filters are added to the character and background from the OBS filter function to adjust the color tones.

A blur effect is added to the background. The blur effect is not a standard feature of OBS, so we used an additional plugin.

We used this plugin. → https://github.com/ashmanix/blur-filter-obs-plugin

The next step is to add flare.

To add the flare effect, prepare gradation image data.

Using the Color Correction filter, adjust the color of the gradient. The blend mode is set to additive, and the size and position are adjusted and placed to match the light source.

The flares were adjusted by layering several, not just one.

Next, add Diffusion.

To do Diffusion, you need to blur the finished image. There are two ways to do this: you can blur them together in a group folder, or you can start two OBSs and capture the OBS screen with the other one and blur it.

Overlay the blurred image with reduced opacity.

Finally, add a color correction filter to the scene to adjust the overall tonality.

Adjust contrast, saturation, brightness, etc. to complete the process.

My impression after trying it out is that it is not impossible to create anime screen effects with OBS, but it is quite a hassle. OBS is a distribution tool, so it is difficult to add anime screen effects with it.

Compared to Shoost.
