Chapter 3 = A Suspicious Encounter

“Please,” The young woman’s voice repeated. “You have to help me.” Daisy looked around the aisle to see a girl, about her age, talking to the cashier at the register who looked extremely confused. The girl was dressed in a stereotypical school uniform. Plaid skirt, white blouse and tie, and simple shoes. She had fine light brown skin and her black curly hair that poofed out from her back and the top of her head in a small curly afro. “Did you hear what I said?!” The girl yelled out at the cashier who looked like he was getting ready to call the cops. When the girl said that she slammed her hands down on the counter leaning to look closer at the cashier. Her skirt flipped up slightly, not much but just enough for Daisy to see a brief flash of pink underneath her plaid skirt. It looked like more than simple panties though, almost like...no... it couldn’t have been, surely she must have imagined it.

“Young lady, I’m going to have to ask you to calm down.” The cashier said sternly.

“Young lady? I’m 18 years old! Why does everyone keep calling me that?! Please Sir, can I at least use your phone?” Because of the girls’ crazed tone, the man looked hesitant to do her any favors. The girl tried for a few minutes to get the clerk to listen to her, but the man was getting more and more upset as the conversation continued. Clearly desperate and not getting anywhere with the cashier, the girl finally looked around for another option. She turned until her eyes locked on Daisy’s and she quickly approached her. A little frightened by the girls’ forceful pace towards her, Daisy took a few steps back almost stumbling over a low display of movies. As the girl got close, Daisy could swear that she could hear a distinct crinkling sound coming from beneath the girls’ skirt. It couldn’t really be what she thought though, there was no way...

“Please,” The girl said, gripping Daisy’s shoulder a little more tightly than she would have liked. “I don’t have much time. Please, can I borrow your cellphone?”

Daisy tried to respond, and found herself stumbling through the words, nervous at this girls’ scared face and tone. “W-what? I... I don’t have it on me. I-It’s in my car.” The girl looked disappointed and looked around again, she was surveying her options before looking back at Daisy.

“Listen, there’s a school, not far from here, called The Oasis Academy. It’s this really prestigious and proper seeming place, and everyone thinks it’s perfect, because of the name and the teachers and the students act like everything there is amazing; but it isn’t. The teacher’s there are nuts!” From the way this girl was talking and whispering and looking around her, Daisy was kinda getting the nervous feeling that she herself might be a little bit nuts. “The place seems all wonderful and perfect when people come to look at it, but it’s more than it seems. That place needs to be shut down.”

“Wait... hold on. Slow down.” Daisy said, her breathing having become accelerated just by listening to this girl rant. “Did you say the Oasis Academy?”

“Yeah? Why?” The girl looked confused for a moment, but then her eyes widened with realization and concern as she quickly eyed Daisy up and down. “Oh god... you’re not headed there right now are you?”

“Uhhhh...” Daisy didn’t know what to say to this girl. She was so nervous she looked like she was capable of anything right now.

“You can’t go.” The girl spoke in a clear warning, “I don’t know what you have to do, but you should go home. If you go you’ll end up...” At that moment, the ding of the bell at the front door of the shop was heard again.

“There you are!” Came the voice of a stern older woman. The girl Daisy was talking to twirled around with a gasp, but before she could react a new stranger had grabbed her by the arm. “We’ve been looking for you everywhere sweetheart. You can’t run away like that.” The woman dragging the other girl towards the shop entrance appeared to be a kind and warm looking woman yet had a firm tight grip on the schoolgirls’ arm. She had brown hair tied up in a ponytail and glasses that gave her a bit of a librarian look. She was wearing a uniform of her own but it was clearly for a faculty member rather than a student. A gleaming emblem adored the jacket the lady was wearing, and Daisy recognized it. It was the Oasis Academy emblem. “I apologize so much for the disturbance Sir.” The woman said to the cashier as she passed by. “Have a lovely day.” The woman dragged the girl outside of the shop and towards a vehicle. The schoolgirl was clearly furious and fighting and screaming as she was dragged towards it. Daisy would have followed the odd pair outside, but she was still holding her snacks and hadn’t paid for them yet.

“Wait! No please!” The girl screamed out. “Let me go! I don’t want to go back! Please!” But by then the woman had gotten the girl to the car and forced her to crawl into the backseat. Before the car door shut tightly behind the girl, Daisy got one last glance at her strange pink undergarments, still not sure if she was seeing the truth or not. The car door quickly shut, muffling anymore of the girls’ loud protests. The woman briefly fixed her hair before looking back towards the shop. Daisy’s heart stopped as the woman locked eyes with her for a moment. The woman gave Daisy a small smile and a quick wink before getting into the driver’s seat and speeding away.

Daisy was stunned there for a few moments before the cashier broke her out of her temporary paralysis. “Are you gonna buy something or what?” The man said in an angry gravely smoker’s voice; he was apparently sick of dealing with customers for the day.

“Oh yes, sorry.” Daisy said, as she walked over before quickly paying for her items. As she did so, her mind was reeling with what the girl had said to her. Could she be telling the truth? Was going to this school a bad idea? Her parents had already driven her this far to come here, she didn’t think there was a way to turn back now...
