So I've been looking for a WHILE for an artist to do physical illustrations of the Firesong members in anime style, and I think I finally found the right fit! This kid is 17 (working with permission of their mother) and is saving up for a desktop PC so they can start trying digital art!

The first image is WIP test of Catcher, while the second and third are the two finished styles I'm thinking of adding to the Kickstarter for anyone to pick up a physical drawing of in colorless or colored! What do you all think?

PS: The colored version is definitely a little bit more sexual than I would go for. This is a young creator just learning, and I look at is as an opportunity to guide them in a more commercially viable direction.

Very sharp style - I'm not the biggest fan of anime but I think it really suits stormweaver really well! I specially appreciate the idea of supporting a young artist. Incidentally, imagine what that's going to be like for the kid when he's like 22 and the first billion dollar budget stormweaver movie comes out and he gets to say "yeah I've been the stormweaver main artist since I've been 17 😎🤙🏻"

Very nice! The sexuality is still YA'ish, so I wouldn't consider it negatively.

The kid has learned the most important part of business. lol. sex sells

I love them. She is a little too sexual but I absolutely love her hair.

yeah we mentioned that in the post too haha. hoping to guide the artist in a better direction as his first big client!

I don't mind the sexy look at all. These characters are all adults. They all work out for like 5 hours a day, at least. It makes sense that they'd look good. Tbh. I really like the look.

I think the colored one might suit Viv since she is super forward and never shy. might be why Grant is tamed now. She just steamrolled the poor man

I'd be completely down for a Kickstart campaign for character designs. This kid clearly has talent beyond a Learning Anime for Dummies book and I'd love to be part of encouraging them to keep going. I'm assuming the Kickstarter is to cover the kid's fee (which may or may not coincidentally cost as much as their first professional desktop rig) and the repro costs for the artwork rewards. I'm not really thinking about stretch goals*, but what would the distribution of any overages looks like? *Of course now that I mentioned stretch some unsolicited ideas: with/without CADs; tiered to having more characters starting with academy staff and expanding to secondary characters maybe; maybe a coffee table style book for large pledges?

I think he's really good, and I totally agree on the less sexual tones thing, too.

I agree that the artist shouldn’t go out of his way to sexualize the characters, but they are all supposed to be very attractive people. Canonically they are all very athletic designer babies.

Maybe I'm weird for this, because I don't really like overly sexualized stuff as a general rule, but it's a fairly major part of Viv's character. Like, she straight up brags about how she's gonna sleep with everyone fairly early on in book 1. And secondarily, I just don't think this is even that egregious an example. Like, I get what people mean, and I think it's vaguely close to the line. But I don't think it's all that irksome, and I've always felt like my bar for that kind of thing is insanely low. To be clear, I'd love for images of the girls I'd like it to largely just be like, them in uniform like these other two are. I just think this is pretty close to "A girl putting her hair up in casual clothing" and she just happens to be a hot girl. Anyways, artist is magnificent. And I think getting him onboard for anything is a good decision. Quick edit: I found the artist. And as a general rule they don't overly sexualize women. So it doesn't seem like much of anything to worry about. I mean, they managed to draw Mirko from My Hero without her being sexualized, and ISTG Horikoshi has never managed that once in the actual manga.

A bit late to the party here, But this artist is amazing, they are going to go far and I for one would absolutely love to see more of their work for the characters. The second picture of the guy in the space suit gave me some heavy Hunter X Hunter Killua vibes which I'm completely okay with.
