Chapter 6 coming Friday!

As the door to the flyer finally closed behind them, cutting off the wicked bite of the wind and snow outside, Jasper had to stop herself from cursing in every language she knew. Despite whatever her trimmed, confident appearance might say to the contrary, it was work to pull off the look she liked for in-person jobs like this, and anything that messed with that effort could fall to the archons for all she cared. Still, as much as Jasper would have liked to scream profanity at the frost-crusted window in French, German, English, and Japanese most fluently, she kept her poise, choosing instead to brush the snow from her jacket shoulders and hair delicately before scooting back further into the luxury leather of the personal transport’s wide seats.

Her self-control was made much easier by the sense of triumph that had been burning in her cheeks from the moment she’d realized Reidon Ward wouldn’t be signing that day.

“Lose the smirk if you please, Jasper,” her companion said, his voice distorted and robotic through his helmet. “I will admit it: you were correct.”

Yesssssssssssssssss

AzraelExiled

Im calling it now that his grandfather was the one under the mask. I doubt anybody else would talk to Jasper like that

Amanda Jones

Grandpappy just got his first taste of what I'm sure is Reidons reflex-like "fuck you" response to anything he even suspects has to do with his sperm and egg donors. Lol

Sweet this is the slowest i have ever read chapters.

Very nice opening. Just goes to show that people emotionally invested with a problem are not always good at letting people help them fix their problems. Jasper has every reason to be upset and it is Grandpa fault. So many ways she could have made Reidon less wary and more likely to sign

Gregory Moses

Wow, others before guessed that the bodyguard was grandpa. I didn’t believe it, I thought he was to old. I am sure that is who it was.

I have to say, she has only had two scenes so far (one and a half, as this is only a sneak peek), but I think a side story on Ueno Jasper and her life as a corporate fixer would be an interesting one, and might potentially complment Stormweaver nicely, especially if she were to end up being a full-time or regular addition to the SW cast as an advisor/agent/business manager for Rei. It seems that she is empathic and has a very good grasp of the probable emotional reactions of the people around her, and people she has never met. Consumate professional able to keep her own emotions out of a situation, but also grounded enough to be able to express them in private or when she is not "on the clock".

Doubtful. Contested wills are not uncommon. You have plenty of people who were supposed to inherit property, wealth and other things get squat, or very little. Grandpa can write whatever he wants to in his will and then lawyers will fight it out. And that's assuming Reidon wants to be the heir. If he doesn't he will just let it go anyway

Dewald Slabbert

Meh… there’s still Sarah. I doubt he’s hunting for an heir and more just want his grandson in his life

Don Stanwick

Personally, I feel that Rei was an experiment and that his "parents" took him due to the fact they thought it was unethical and then dropped him as a ward in order to not be associated with the fact that they kidnapped grandpa's experiment.

Just in. Today is actually Friday.

Corwin

Probably everything. Jasper is talented at doing what she does. That we know. She had rules that she had to follow and a deal that was over the top and she knew that would send up even more red flags. A "fixer" by definition is trying to fix what someone broke. Tying their hands up in how is annoying. There job is to fix things and micromanaging them isn't helpful and is counterproductive.

Cora

Oh see I think that the grandfather had bone-itis too and that's why his company was so invested in CAD tech. And he was probably one of the first users. At least that's my head canon. I can't write remember the timeline of how long CADs have been around and the east has been going on. So maybe I'm wrong. Lol

Corwin

Been around for a few hundred years. I think 300 but not positive. It is a genetic disorder that is carried down to descents. But if he is an experiment it wouldn't be grandpa's. Grandpa is further up the tree. And no matter how you slice that there isn't a way to make that work with DNA.

Angela Schurr

I had the thought that perhaps this “rare disease” has a different cause. Maybe too many “adjustments” to the dna or late adjustments can have unintended consequences that are only discovered at birth. And that his parents pushed past a limit (legal or otherwise) that caused his condition which is the real reason they abandoned and then hid him. They wouldn’t want the grandfather discovering what they’d accidentally done.

Corwin

Not sure we can say too many adjustments to the DNA got Reidon to having this rare medical condition. People play with DNA today and genetically engineering their children with various traits. And with Sarah having no problems it would be crazy to think that they couldn't engineer a baby correctly. Though if it was a surprise baby. The recessive genes would pop up. Genetic testing depending on what you want to find do have time limits. So if the disease can't be tested until 24 weeks you have a long delay. Everyone knows you are pregnant so instead of dealing with it, you could give it away and tell everyone the child was born stillborn. While uncommon still happens even in today's world.

Shaolas

So seems like the helmeted gentleman is his grandfather. Nice plot point, speaks a lot to the balance of willpower and desire in that character.
