During the eruption of Lady Chasmatus, cities throughout the Dwarven Kingdom sank into a sea of magma. Feenpaik, a small city known for an exclusive alchemical studies program, almost shared a fiery demise. Fortunately for its residents, the brothers Aardwal and Veork, revered for their concoctive genius, used their strongest magic to save the town. First, they drank their most potent brews and grew to be six stories tall. The pair then used their bodies to form a bridge, simultaneously allowing residents to escape the sinking town while also slowing its descent. When the brothers realized their organic bodies couldn't hold through the disaster, they looked each other in the eyes and cast flesh to stone. There they remain, a monument to the event as well as their sacrifice. Many scholars wish to cure their altruistic curse, but the effects of the brothers' potions seem to have altered the magic, making it significantly more difficult (if not impossible) to dispel. Others believe that even if they were cured the stress on their bodies would simply result in their deaths.
