“A prayer comes from the SOUL”

Hey Alex I have a question, recently some shows have being discussing about the journey of pure self satisfaction with Zeke, sukuna and Mahito. Inherently it’s an amoral topic but it’s portrayed as bad/evil why do you think that is and how do you think it could be portrayed in a good light if a writer wanted to

Good question. I think what makes characters like that evil is not purely that they're self interested, but that they pursue selfish aims at great expense to others. If someone takes selfishly to the point where they are destroying far more than they're contributing, it's a net loss to creation, has the potential for untold devastation, and even practically speaking probably is counter productive as it almost immediately creates a worse world for themselves. Everyone is self interested to some degree, even in noble pursuits, but there has to be some kind of value structure, some lines that can't be crossed, and some kind of personal benefit that is harmonious or parallel with benefit to others. I think that's how it can be done heroically.

The Takada-chan anime opening of Todo beating up Mahito is anime only btw. The animators on this season have been having a fun time being super creative with Todo's character. Though unfortunately Todo got a fate worse than death, no more boogie woogie :(

It's amazing but I couldn't let myself fully enjoy it in the moment cause I thought it might be a death fantasy. Imagine they hard cut to him with a fatal blow... As for his fate, maybe he can't boogie woogie but I'll take the fact that he both did his part AND survived

Many people view this change in Yuji as a negative state that he needs to grow out of or “Yuji’s finally edgy and cool”. Gege has repeatedly emphasized that building one’s worth on fragile philosophies is not the way to go, shown through characters like Jogo and Yuji. He also has shown that the ego is a path to changing one’s environment, such as with Sukuna or even “good” characters like Gojo and Megumi. However, he also said that, if the story has one message, it is that no one has the ultimate answer. Mahito is the ultimate example of ego, yet completely was defeated by Yuji. Through Nanami and Todo, Yuji understood the idea of one’s will being carried on. This has now liberated him, as he now has more perspective on his role and what he can do for the future. Every human is a tile on a path, Yuji doesn’t need to be more than what he is, he just needs to be the best damn tile there is, because when one works for the future, there is no wasted effort. Itadori has seemly become hollow, devoid of ego, and ultimately humble in his role, defeating the squealing Mahito, someone with all the ego in the world. Itadori saves without thinking and Mahito kills without thinking, and Yuji has become more of his true self than Mahito with nothing else to prove. Hollow of self, yet seemly more himself than what Mahito can achieve. Edit: Meant to type Jogo first, not Gojo

These are all based on my own personal observations and opinions, and I could very well be wrong. Just wanted to say this.

Hard for me to really say at this point but his declarations in this episode feel like a step in the right direction to me, even if not the final step. There's still some bitterness and resentment for the state of the world he's in (very understandably), a whole lot of anger, but also more incorporative of some of the truth he didn't want to look at as well as the legacy / tile element you mentioned. I think beyond that looks something like Todo, where he has come to peace with it fully, knows himself and his role, and can free up the space to still be a happy person as much as humanly possible given his situation, enjoy moments of beauty, and be as good as possible even as an instrument of violence.

Yeah, I think it just comes from the scary vibe that Yuji brought from Mahito’s perspective. It’s clear he is pretty beat down from the whole ordeal.

Skyler Anderson

I can completely understand that hahaha. The pendant falling felt like a death flag. Seems like he boogie woogied your expectations

Totally just headcanon but I like to think that the reason Sukuna just silently kinda smirked at Mahito as he was talking, was cause Sukuna could already tell that Yuji’s growth/development had surpassed Mahito and he knew Mahito was about to get beat lol. I know it’s moreso just cause that scene was only meant to be happening for a quick moment and not a back and forth dialogue, but I imagine Sukuna was just sitting there smirking at him and in his head was like “HA alright bud go ahead and try it, you’re not gonna enjoy the results” lol

That was such a cool moment and all, but I really really needed to see Mahitos death!

I’m laughing cuz I had the same reaction with the realization of Todo’s hand being chopped off. Seeing someone react to it makes me realize how I must have looked watching 😂
