It’s so wild to see so many different character silhouettes in the outro and realize that at this point you obviously haven’t been introduced to most of them - but that they all make for a fantastic cast of characters.

HUNTING FOR YOUR DREEEEAMS!!! You should definitely check out the full version of, "Hunting for Your Dreams" by Galneryus (idk wtf gamertag name that is) and listen to the lyrics. Fits perfect with the anime.

Lemme just make it easier for you.. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDOP-mgSQG0 If you want.

Have you chosen the sub or dub for Steins:Gate yet?

Mike Donohue

Oh hellll yes here we go. If anything is going to fill the AOT void, it’s HxH no doubt

Goodbye learning English, hello Hunterpedia entries! They stick around for a while so be prepared to learn random facts about characters and abilities for a bit. Also, despite all that this show has influenced JJK, I'd not made the Megumi connection with that Zushi scene. It's like the exact same vibe and everything.

Oak

Adding onto this, Galneryus is also the band that does the opening. They have a version of the opening that is more in the style of the rest of their work too.

Peak Arena arc is here, let’s goooo!

The fade into Hunting For your Dream gives me chills everytime

Three quick nerd comments: for the building, Heaven's Arena looks a lot like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (our world's current tallest building), but it's a full 170m or more than 20% taller, so on a completely different scale. Zushi's speech is supposed to be really distinct with how he calls himself 'jibun' ("myself") and says every sentence ending in "-ssu" instead of "-desu," but I'm not sure if that comes across in the subtitles. It's not any difference in meaning; he's just supposed to have a very distinct pronunciation. Speaking of pronunciation, the currency of the hunter world is "jennies" which is just a play on the word for the old Japanese currency called "zeni." 100 zeni is 1 yen.

Ryan

Oh! Also, I forgot. Yes, the opening is the same song, but it's a different verse with different lyrics. So, quite literally same-same, but different. (The lyrics aren't really spoilers or meaningful. Just generic "keep chasing your dream" shonen stuff)

Great reaction, but beware: I would avoid watching the openings (the op song stays the same anyways), they sadly spoil major plot points :( Especially in the craziest arc (Chimera Arc) it literally spoils entire plot points… Looking forward!

Ah yes, "some kind of power system coming up". Bring a notepad for the next episodes, it'll be on the test.

Probably should have linked the one I mentioned, but here it is. As much as I love the show's version of the opening, I love this version even more. Also, the guitarist for Galneryus is unreasonably good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT47CtWGeyM Obviously don't read the comments on either.

Oak

I mean, I don't think it really affects the viewing experience all that much, I'd watch em. The biggest thing they spoil are character designs, or in a few cases show that certain characters will be involved, but it's never enough to drastically spoil anything.

Ya I’m not really a fan of skipping intros. That’s how we all saw the show originally and how the creators meant for it to be seen.

I almost forgot how nicely this episode sets up the arc. And just seeing Gon and Killua finally out in the world, interacting with each other or others like this kid Zushi is wholesome. Part of why i fell in love with hxh is due to how it makes you learn about and experience the world along with the characters. And who better to follow on that journey than a few overpowered, precious kids. The idea of two unsupervised kids in the real world with the actual power to do what they want was also funny to me at first. Though it’s just another thing that shows power really transcends many boundaries in this world that you wouldn’t expect. Like how Hisoka was telling Netero he wants to be a hunter largely because they usually can’t be punished for killing someone. Or Netero calmly and confidently affirming Illumi that, yes, he can kill the entire room after he passes and still keep his license. I’m mentioning this cuz i remember you started realising at that point that this is a type of world with “no rules” in some sense. This thing of Gon and Killua being able to roam around like this despite their age is partially another way of showing the powerful in this world can do what they want, i guess even if they’re minors. Luckily Gon and Killua aren’t evil and more mature than your average 12yo, at least to the point you know they won’t abuse their power to harm people. Also as someone already mentioned the Heavens Arena looks a lot like Burj Khalifa but even taller. And you were right, that ending is a classic anime ending. And the song combined with the visuals is one of my favourite from any anime, definitely favourite in hxh. Last but not least, if you read all of this thank you and would you be willing to make any wild guesses at who the man with the cross on his forehead might be, or what his role is, the one from the opening and ending. Not that i will confirm or deny anything of course, no spoilers.
