So yeah, Geto died back in JJK 0, and this individual we’ve been seeing in the present day since season 1 has merely been an entity possessing his corpse.

Just a heads up if you already weren't aware or spoiled (which is a great feat at this point it seems), but the internet is ripe with people spoiling the latest manga chapter. From crunchyroll comments to even YouTube thumbnails and all of social media, people just can't keep their mouths shut. I don't think anyone is stupid enough to do so in this patreon community, but beware of YouTube comments I guess!!

Ok.... But Nobara finally got her summer uniform! And RIP Geto(or not, it seems). As obnoxious as his plans and actions were, it's truly sad, tragic and messed up to see his body be exploited in death by creepy brain man for even greater evils. Don't really care about Hanami(No RIP to you Mr. Asparagus), but I know you're going to be bothered by Gojo not going for Jogo first, as satisfying as him being manhandled was😂. It seems you have more quality time to spend with the beloved volcano head. Also Gojo proving he's the ultimate threat, the antagonist of antagonists!! And Mappa proving their devotion to him was phenomenal. But alas, Gege's hatred for Gojo prevails. Their author's note after the release of this chapter in around Jan of 2020 was- " Now that Gojo is gone, it looks like 2020 is going to be a good year". Lol! But yeah......we all know how that one went. Yikes!

the whole thing with gojo not getting shoko to dispose of geto's body as well as having to kill his best friend and how gut-wrenching that must have felt.... imagine seeing him again and that whole minute of memories passes through his head with that slight relief that geto had gotten out alive, somehow. only to realize his best friend's body had gotten possessed by something and it just happened to be, again, sort of gojo's fault. from being blindsided with geto's descent in the prequel arc because geto had always been his moral compass. the person who was rigid and right, to having to witness his walking corpse bc he couldnt get rid of it for sentimental reasons. all of it is just so morbid. neither of them deserved any of this honestly. I've been thinking a lot about this lately because of internet discussions, but the theory that geto was doomed from the start makes their relationship so much more depressing. No matter what gojo did, he would have still ended up here. Being the strongest literally means nothing. Yes, he can protect himself, but the people closest to him, still, somehow, end up miserable.

Something I want to talk about. First, many people seemed to be split beforehand over whether he would kill the civilians or not and if he cared, and it seems his answer is somewhere in the middle. He was unwilling to kill the civilians with the domain, yet seemed to already account for those dying from the cursed spirits. This seems to be a mix of compassion and ego, as he doesn’t want to kill the citizens, but much of it has to do with ego because sacrificing civilians to beat his opponents would be a concession of defeat, because Gojo is the ultimate symbol of strength and he can’t accept an outcome where he has to choose between the two. If he does, then he calls into question his role as the strongest and accepts defeat. He can’t just defeat his opponents, his strength needs to allow him to be completely unconquerable, unrestricted, and all powerful. Even if he wins and is the strongest technically, he won’t have the role of “the strongest”, just someone who is strong and he can’t affirm his role as the all powerful protector of Jujutsu society. Kinda like All Might as the symbol of peace, just more internal and ego-driven.

He also says he is “not the fondest of Itadori”, so it’s interesting how an author can create such amazing characters despite not caring, as Itadori becomes an absolutely fantastic protagonist, easily top 10 for me in this season. Honestly a reread of this arc solidly made me see Itadori as one of the best modern protagonists.

OH i also wanted to add to this that the being inside geto using his memories and concluding that the only thing that could catch gojo off guard was seeing him and USING that to seal him with the right amount of spice to his “yo satoru” is just so cruel im in shambles

What a way to bring Gojo down. They've spent the whole show building up how God-like he is, only to remind everyone that he's a human who trusted someone (and now he's paying for it). The man cannot catch a break lol

I swear, after watching HxH, watching other battle shonen is like an Easter egg hunt for HxH references/influences sometimes. Also, whether directly said by the author or implied (I forget), it does seem that the arc you referenced is what this arc was modeled after.

Just like other people are saying be SUPER careful on the internet with regards to JJK rn. I’m a caught up manga reader and I’ve never seen anything like how the community is right now. The discourse around the last chapter is getting so huge it’s roping in people who’ve never even heard of JJK before and so many people are getting spoiled on massive events. In regards to this episode though, loved seeing the 100% faith that Gojo has in Yuta’s abilities, I also always felt like (fake) Geto is being really dismissive here for no reason, Yuta trained for a few months max and kicked a much more experienced Geto’s ass in jjk0, my boy is Special grade for a reason lmao.

@Chris yeah I always loved Yuji's character just for how charismatic and lovable he is but this arc really made me love him more, so it's kind of unfortunate to see many people still think he's a bad protagonist just because he's not "strong enough". And also surprising Gege isn't fond of Yuji which I'm now curious as to why. Also its funny how Gege likes to hate on Gojo so much, since their editor seems to think they are very similar to Gojo. I don't know if that's just sad or hilarious. And as far as I know, Gege seems to like Nanami the most.

I just wanna say i always appreciate your reactions and like everyone else says be extremely careful of spoilers. The new chapter just became the most tweeted manga chapter ever in the first 24h. There’s no way to overestimate how easy it is to get spoiled right now. Be as careful as you can in the next week or even two at least.

I love that everyone in his comments so far has only referred to it as “That arc” without saying the arc title. I’m sure it’ll be said on the HxH reactions at some point, but the arc title is such a lame spoiler and it would be great to see a reactor with absolutely no hint of what the arc will be

Absolutely. It’s a shame because I usually get into series in the first place by learning spoilers that make me interested in watching it. So a lot of the time I never go in completely blind. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

It may be somewhat do with the fact that JJK was just originally meant to be just 0 (although he probably had thought of other stuff) and he had to create a new protagonist. I definitely don’t think he hates Yuji and put a lot of effort into his character, but I guess it felt kinda forced for him. Gege is clearly not like other authors, whose depth and importance of characters depend on how much the author likes them. Basically all authors naturally gravitate towards certain characters they make, but it seems that Gege can really grind in order to make characters he doesn’t have a connection with amazing and not show favoritism. It’s likely his criteria for liking the characters he makes is more fickle and aesthetic based (as Nanami is his fav, but doesn’t get nearly the focus of others, even though he’s amazing), and not really a determiner of how good they may be in important rolls. I mean, the two characters he said he wasn’t the fondest of are literally the two most important characters in the series.

Major hunter x hunter vibes this episode, I can't wait for the blu-ray release to be honest where the proper animation can actually be seen. this blurring/darkening has been a bit jarring because you can just tell how gorgeous it looks without all that added censorship.

Man looking back there were so many clues with Geto not being Geto, like him not calling everyone monkeys and siding with curses, such a gut punch for Gojo and Geto getting disrespected from beyond the grave :(
