DOUBLE UPLOAD YUSSSSS

I’ve been waiting for you to react to HxH since ATLA and i’ve been constantly disappointed at the polls (even though all these other shows have been great too), but i really, REALLY hope you react to Bluelock after Haikyuu instead of HxH, it’s the same amount of hype and had plenty of really well done characters, but it takes a complete opposite philosophy to sports than Haikyuu. It’s essentially the other extreme in opposition to the mindset Haikyuu encourages and it makes me think of a few things you’ve said over the years about how we tend to shift from one extreme to the opposite, but the goal should be somewhere closer to the middle

macrowave

It is! And it’s extremely well done too! It’s the second anime to make me buy the manga lol

0:46 A "failing grade" or aka-ten actually is different depending on the school. Karasuno isn't an academically elite school, so the minimum grade is actually just 40/100. So.... to answer your question at 21:00, no, Hinata did not pass, haha. But he failed by less than before! Character development. 6:50 I enjoy the word Daichi, Tsukki, and the others use for the four less-than-academically-inclined team members. They translate it as "simpleton," but the word is 'tansaibou' (単細胞, "single celled organism") 11:00 Noya's shirt: 三点倒立, santen-touritsu, is just the word for when you do a handstand but you use your head, too. It's not even a "real yoji-jukugo" in the sense of being a proverb. So, I think in this episode, it's just doubling down on the fact that Noya likes those shirts and those expressions because they look and feel cool, not because he has particularly deep insight into any of them, haha. Before and after that, it's just his favorite 一騎当千 (ikki-tousen, the "one knight for 1000"). 19:35 Hinata's line "I can fly" was an interesting translation there. It's the same pronunciation as "I can jump" --> 'toberu,' so without the spelling, you can't tell the difference. I got curious and looked up the manga panel to see which one he actually said, 飛べる (can fly) or 跳べる (can jump), and apparently it was..... とべる, just hiragana, haha, or in other words, intentionally ambiguous. Blegh. Fiction authors do that a lot, especially when it's a situation like "the speaker meant it one way, but the person listening interpreted it in a different way, and both are valid." I mean, sure, it's artful, but as a Westerner, it still gets to me, haha.

so excited for yachi to be in the future episodes. i love her character and her dynamic with hinata is one of my favorites in the show!!

Athena

I love it when shows introduce a character and they use their "newness" and "ignorance" to remind us how cool and awesome our main cast is. I see them through the perspective of the new character. It sheds a light on their personalities and quirks and I get exited watching someone new become more familiar with how things are done and how people act. There's also different chemistry between characters that I like to see. How will they act with this person? What will the dynamic be? Yachi is super relatable to me with how anxious she is and how much she overthinks. She's such a little cutie tho!

Chris Sharpe

Haven’t seen a lot about it, but from what I’ve heard, it’s like a battle shonen dressed up like a sports anime. I saw a random episode with my brother and it had a lot more anime flair than Haikyuu.

People make jokes about how you hate the education system, but now I’m starting to be concerned that it left lasting trauma.

And now, our favorite walking, talking natural disaster has arrived, Hitoka Yachi.

macrowave

yeah! I’d say it leans a bit more towards shonen than Haikyuu does and some of the art is just incredible! Especially when it comes to the emotions on people’s faces! Highly recommend checking out the other episodes too!

Jason Serrano

I mean he hasn't really gone OFF as much as he ever did until this ep so I understand Chris's concern 🤣🤣🤣

Aray YIKAMACI

I love that you really feel like an earthbender like your sister said, and to me you also resemble Daichi in certain ways, who is definitely an earthbender spirit.

Yachi, our lesbian icon :)
