I really like how this episode, through Kageyama mostly, shows how awkward and embarrassing it can be to try to improve at something we're not good at. He's really trying to connect to his teammates, but attention doesn't automatically translate into success. For example: 0:20 "You won't get your way? What the hell is that?" --> Not sure if I can explain this well, but Hinata thought that Kageyama's attempted smile looked like a comic book villain who was plotting some nefarious scheme. He says "nani o takuranderu?" (they translate that as "what are you thinking," but the word "takuramu" isn't just ordinary "thinking." It's used in the context of scheming/coming up with a dastardly plot). So, Hinata says what the hero/spy/protagonist typically says to the villain, like "You won't get away with this!" Similarly, at 3:38, Kageyama's attempt at complimenting, "Well done," is pretty great. "Yoku yatta" is something a teacher tells a student, or a boss tells an employee, but you really wouldn't say it that way to a teammate/peer. Two tiny little language notes: - 3:48 the pun is pretty lame, haha. Kageyama's first name is Tobio. The word for flying fish is "Tobi-uo." Har har. - Iwaizumi's speech changes when he gets really pissed at Oikawa for breaking down and taking a swipe at Kageyama (which of course will be *totally* uncontroversial.... I'm sure that everyone, even enjoyers of a certain type of tea, will agree that that would've been way over the line... haha). The emotion in his voice is accompanied by breaking out in the local dialect (for the northern Tohoku region). He says "6-nin da be ya!" which in Tokyo ("NHK Standard") Japanese would be "6-nin nan da yo" or "6-nin datte ba." It's a great detail, but I always have to caution Japanese learners not to imitate the emotional parts of fiction, or in this case they'd end up sounding like country bumpkins, haha.

Gonna rewatch this episode through the reaction so that I can defend my boy Oikawa, I'm sure he had a totally valid reason to lash out at Kageyama. Surely... Or maybe not lol we will see

Oikawa is just being petty not mentoring/helping Kageyama specifically, and honestly I quite like that dynamic. I guess, he knows Kageyama will learn, perfect and surpass those techniques with or without his help. And the fact that he sees Kageyama as his equal and rival is basically a form of subconscious respect. He has no ill intent, just doesn't want to directly contribute to Kageyama's rapid growth while having to face him on the opposite side. And then..... Coming to the "almost" swipe, I really can't defend him there so Iwa-chan was the mvp who saved all the Oikawa stans from turning on him. I can understand what he must have been feeling, being blinded by helplessness, jealousy and rage to the point of not having much control of your actions, but really I'm just glad he was stopped in the nick of time so I can continue loving him.

I am a shameless Oikawa stan and I would not turn on him even if he did hit Kageyama, its a high school guys sports team, fights happen. Anyone who has been on a competitive sports team especially during teenage years knows this type of stuff is pretty normal.

Haha 😂 then *almost all Oikawa stans! Jokes aside, I might have been overexaggerating and I wouldn't suddenly hate him either if he had landed a hit, but I could personally never condone his action. Oikawa trying to hit Kageyama, albeit not consciously, did that unprovoked and for no reason or fault of Kageyema's.

While Haikyuu is a pretty positive outlook on the world of sports I appreciate the way they show all the other more painful aspects of it. Oikawa is the perfect amount of petty and self-loathing to be this complex mix of a lovable idiot for me. And if Oikawa is too much for anyone there's always Iwaizumi who straightens him up.

As a Tsukki fan girl, I love his sassiness towards those within his grade-level. He's true and faithful to his own abilities and thinking. I appreciate how he was able to voice his thoughts to, his enemy, Kageyama EVEN THOUGH they weren't the best words to use to communicate lol Kageyama even pushed through those words to truly understand what Tsukki was trying to say, "I don't like how your sets tell me what to do. I have my own way of doing things." Then he goes to show us how he fights in terms of playing the game. He plans, he analyses, he thinks, he sets a trap, and follows through! Can't wait for the finale coming up :)

At least they seemed to recognize that the pun was lame lol. I never realized just how much I was missing before your language comments.

Great reaction! The last episode of season 1 has an after credit scene.

Ruma Risto

Omg, I had forgotten how adorable little Kageyama was!

"Missing" is a strong word, haha. I think of it as just "bonus material" if you're interested.

It's 1x24 (the "spiritual ending" of the season) that has the scene with everyone. 1x25 is just an end-credits recap.
