I went into the episode expecting it to be sad, but the author threw a goofy monkey wrench into that, which was great. For some reason, I don’t really get the feeling that Kyouko has a position of the power over Rei. While Rei isn’t in the best mental state, he feels very strong and emotionally mature, which is very different from Kyoto. Despite Kyouko abusing him when he was young, and hurting him with her words, it doesn’t feel like an Akito situation, even though Kyouko is sorta like a toned down Akito.

I love this episode for many different reasons but the simple reason is that it really reminds me of the time that I was Rei’s age. When I was 14-18 I worked with people who were much much older than me, some who were in their 60’s and I remember hanging out with them in bars and pubs after work and they would absolutely talk my ear off 😂 but then there was always moments like the last scene of this episode were they would get ultra serious with me and it had such a profound effect on me even to this day. Sangatsu captures life in all its ages soo wonderfully. Also I love the fact that Rei purposely wanted to let Kyouko know that the old man wasn’t retiring even though he lost. It just goes to show how mature Rei is and that he isn’t completely under the spell of Kyouko’s manipulation. It’s his lil revenge on her and it’s just so damn beautiful.
