Now an important thing to note here in case you missed it or it wasn’t clear. This is NOT the AfO that’s currently sitting in Tartarus possessing Tomura. It’s the vestige of him inside the AfO quirk that’s possessing him. Essentially another All for One. A copy of the individual but separate from each other. This also marks the beginning of a rather divisive plot point among the fandom. Toga is interesting, because she doesn’t see what she does as a bad act because in her eyes, It’s an act of love. But because of her upbringing and how people treated her, she has a very infantile state of mind and black and white world view. She isn’t able to understand the complexities of the world as it appears. I’ve always found it interesting cause I’m curious how it’s inevitably going to resolve.

Another thing worth noting, this episode was animated by the team that usually works on Mob Psycho.

To bring some clarity to some of the fans disappointment towards the Deku vs Shigaraki fight, a lot of the fans disappointment didn't come from lack of good content but My Hero usually has pretty average animation then shells out for the big moments. Lots of fans saw this as a big moment and were underwhelmed to see that it wasn't given any special treatment. That being said, I've been loving this season even as a manga reader and I'm excited to see the season keep going as there's so many good moments to look forward to!

@6:20ish the sub translation for AFO’s reaction to Nana being there was fucking hilarious “look Tomura! Isn’t that amazing? It’s a dead person” lmao

Kayla

Did you notice any more callbacks to the first couple episodes? 🙂

Matthew Richson

People definitely set their expectations high because of how fond they were of the moment. And when those weren’t met, it was a reaction of great disappointment. Fortunately, the episode after this one more than met expectations, IMO. Could things have been better in places? Sure, but as far as I’m concerned they’ve done a very good job this season. And I’m eager to see how the rest turns out.

To be totally honest, I hate the manga fandom. They are always complaining about things that anime-onlys don’t blink at. They are extremely disrespectful and toxic to the author, which is the #1 thing that makes me hate a fandom. Every Reddit chapter/episode discussion is like a hateful circlejerk.

Chris Sharpe

You were talking about Deku potentially learning this nuance from the villains, but it looks like it might be primed at the present for Uraraka to get that kind of development as well. She’s being faced with philosophical questions with a product of the hero system in front of her.

Chris Sharpe

Hmmm…. I thought something was missing from these comments sections the last month or so. Where the heck is Geneva?

Matthew Richson

@Chris, fortunately, this one YouTuber I follow is a manga reader and he’s one of the most positive MHA fans you’ll ever see. MightyGazelle is his name, he’s a fun guy. Reacts to the manga chapters as they come out and gives his constructive thoughts on the anime as they come out. And the discord he has is very positive too. I should know, I’m a part of it.

Chris Sharpe

@Matthew Richson Yeah, definitely. Youtubers are generally quite respectful. It’s mostly a lot of the deep fandom that are degenerates. It just irks me when a fandom is very negative and disrespectful. Whenever I search up a discussion about an episode or chapter, I leave with a bad taste in my mouth from the toxicity.

Chris Sharpe

AFO is such a troll. He seems like the kind of villain who stares at his wardrobe thinking of the most menacing outfit, or waiting in a shadowy corner for 30 minutes for the perfect opportunity to walk out, or practicing his evil monologues in the mirror after brushing his teeth.

CEEmma

I do think My Hero does a good job of displaying "insanity" through characters like Toga cuz she honestly doesn't think how shes going about asking Uraraka here as wrong.

Jake White

Most definitely the *mustache twirling as he ties a damsel to some railroad tracks* vibes

Athena

I don't think Ochaco is able to give Toga the answer she's looking for whatever that may be. TBH she don't really know her like that. It's more of a one-sided friendship on Toga's part where she's in love with Ochaco and wants to be her, whereas Ochaco is just trying to save the people Toga is putting in harms way. I can't see them having a civil conversation unless Toga is unarmed and restrained.

Kayla

I didn't want to say it outright cause it will be elaborated on in the show later. I was just curious 😁

Chris Sharpe

Awe. Shame, I miss her little quote sections. All the regulars in these comments sections are awesome.

Thing of note: next week's ending has special scenes in it and theyre really good

I remember when I first started the series, I got a few warnings that the fandom could be "toxic" at times. Come to think of it I got the same warning about Attack on Titan. But for whatever reason it doesn't seem to translate to my experience watching the show for videos, it's just something I hear about.

agoodwintv

Yeah that makes a lot of sense especially when you consider the fact that she has a much more limited perspective than we do. She never got to watch My Villain Academia, for example

Skyler Anderson

From my experience it’s a vocal minority on Reddit and Twitter specifically. If I’m disappointed at anything as a manga reader I may vocalize it but I always do my best to respect the people working on the show. At the end of the day I’m just happy to see my favorite series being animated and put into life. My opinion on the adaptation doesn’t need to translate to others enjoyment or even my own tbh. The fandom can get really bad when they surround themselves with other chronically online crazy fans that agree with everything they say.

kingafreund

Huh, you seem to keep forgetting about Gigantomachia, and I wonder why that is? Like, I think when I read this arc in the Manga his presence was this huge threat hanging over everything, total wild card and harbringer of devestating destruction, but now I'm not feeling it, and I don't know if that's because the Anime just can't get him right or something else? Something doesn't quite translate there. But what I really wanted to talk about was All for One. I think this right here is when it finally hit me what he's really planning, seeing him manifest in Shigaraki's mind like that and fighting him for dominance. I was always sort of suspicious of him just giving up and raising Shigaraki as his successor, but when his brother asks "Is that the new you?" it finally clicked. Ofc he's not giving up and Shigaraki isn't really a successor, just the next body he'll use, now that his own can't be saved. So yeah, they'll fight each other while Deku stands united with both his predeccessors and friends.

Also, your short episode summaries continue to be the best thing ever!

@Default Goblin I only started in February, bursting into the comments section writing walls of text about AOT and MP100, whether it was welcome or not. That was my strategy.
