100 kph (~60 mph) is probably quite accurate as an average. At the high school level it's most likely lower, but at the professional level it's even higher.

love me some haiykuu but i was getting so hyped for march today... i shouldnt have done that to myself

Athena

The Little Giant was Karusuno's previous ace. He's their senpai but no longer goes to the school.

Niko

The little giant was the ace for karasuno a few years prior when hinata saw him on TV. So if hes still playing he is still playing its not for a school team anymore

Athena

Take-chan: No, they we're only acquainted recently. Ukai: How cruel. I just love this exchange because Ukai totally realized the potential Kageyama and Hinata have as a duo. If only they had been playing together longer or knew each other prior to high school. Their chemistry and ability to read and understand each other is that of a special skill in itself.

Athena

The point I think Kageyama was trying to make with that whole speech to Hinata was trying to build up his confidence in his position once again. Hinata being jealous of Asahi isn't really a beneficial feeling when it has to do with something he can't control, his height. He does feel incredible admiration for the position of ace, however, he in no way has the skill or strength to be an ace...YET. So Kagsy was trying to build him back up to take pride in what he is strong and reliable in right now. Edit: lol and you said it after I type this.

Well, at least I can say "there was an attempt" with the extra clip, haha. Language nerd comments: 20:44 Asahi says "makenai kara na," and they (wisely, imo) translate it as "I'll do my best, too," but word-for-word, it's "I'm not going to lose [to you]." Suga and Kageyama said it to each other earlier, and it's used a lot in Haikyuu as a form of encouragement, but it's really Haikyuu-specific. It's not a thing in the real world (at least yet?), so to me, it sort of encapsulates the author's message, that what's most encouraging to other people is to treat them as friendly rivals. I'm going to do my best to beat you, but/because I want you to do your best to beat me, too, and we'll both get better thanks to it. 17:10 Subtitles had Tanaka saying that Hinata "splendidly led all of us," but what he actually meant there is that Hinata did a good job "luring all of *the other team* away" from his block. He's not talking about Hinata being a leader on Karasuno, but rather, an effective decoy. 16:18 Takeda says the jump floater is "makyuu-mitai," = like a knuckleball (in baseball or soccer), where you hit with no spin so the ball goes in an unpredictable, wobbly path. It's not a "secret weapon" like the subtitles say in that it's very much known to everyone, haha. In fact, you'd often advertise that you have it to intimidate other teams. To answer an earlier question, yes, it's actually not an exaggeration that top-level high school volleyball spikes often do reach 100km/h and even higher at the college and pro level (topping out at about 130km/h), and serves will be close to that, but still, the jump floater is popular because it's often harder to pick up than a fast top-spin serve, and it's less risky to hit (although getting no spin is really tough to do at first). 11:10 Kageyama's "chouhatsu" is just a dare, basically. "I dare you to stop him / I challenge you to stop him." I don't know what they were going for with "calling you out," but Kageyama definitely wasn't trash talking them or saying they've been slacking. He's just saying, I need you to try to stop him for real to make my point, haha.

I did watch the clip after I saw your comment yesterday (thank you) but sadly nothing on camera.

This is where Matthew comes in, right? ;)

They may have so much growth in the beginning but the growth never feels to stop. It's kinda like real life growing up. Even the adults never stop learning and growing emotionally and mentally. In my own opinion the growth rn is kind of surface level and the lessons hit a lot harder and deeper throughout the show. Also I love Nishinoya so much

Ryan

I forgot again, but just to continue in the sound words theme for those interested, Suga at 21:10 says three sound words in a row: - uji uji (whimpering) - kuyo kuyo (obsessing over negative thoughts) - iji iji (being hesitant / indecisive)

There's actually a guy called Coach Donny who has already reacted to Haikyuu on YouTube and he's actually a volleyball coach/player and has previous qualifications in animation and he gives so much interesting insight on the techniques, mentality of the players and the unique challenges and roles of each position and how it relates to real life volleyball. He also comments on the animation too and after watching his reactions as someone who had no previous knowledge or experience of volleyball it opened my eyes to a lot of new details. I'm not saying that you should react to his reactions but I feel like if you were to watch them in your own time once you've finished the series, you'd find his commentary really interesting.
