Sorry for the huge delay!

It was so cathartic to watch all the different members of the Zodiac embracing their loved ones all at once, all free of the curse. This ending of the season all feels very cathartic actually…

Francesca White

AHH I'M SO EXCITED THIS IS ONE OF MY FAV EPISODES

benj

No problem chief, I shall simply just watch this tmrw!

benj

Its finally time for what we have all been waiting for

benj

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAXZbfLzJUg me watching this episode for the first time

Geneva The Weeba

"And that love-it's invincible" TITLE CARD

Francesca White

because i read the manga, the fruits basket anime actually didn't make me cry that much. however, when all the curses were breaking one by one, i was bawling my eyes out

Francesca White

i love the line that was something like the cat saying "i hope if i meet you in the future, i don't just see you smile in the moonlight, but in the sunlight too, not just among us, but among humans". the idea that these animals and the god had this amazing time, but it was always in the moonlight, in a dark room, closed off from the world. just like how Akito is always alone in a dark room, but now with the curse gone, can live among everyone else in the sunlight

Geneva The Weeba

"Cry with me" JOKE'S ON YOU, AKITO, I'VE BEEN CRYING THIS WHOLE EPISODe

Nick

Man it's wild how humans can just create water haha so weird I love science 😐🙁😕☹😟😢😭

Nick

Tohru: I'm trying to destroy the world you know Me: 🤨🤨🤨🤨 Tohru: The future you always believed in Me: 🙂Alright we good

Geneva The Weeba

the juxtaposition of this episode vs the aot episode reaction is just. so, so funny

raesh

Oh I love this episode...its so amazing that there was no big climax battle of curse breaking but rather a simpler letting go..of that which binds you...so much more fitting for theme of this show Also side note the fact that God is voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya and Matthew Mercer in Jap and English is amazing...as they both voiced Levi from Attack on titan..😄😄

The origin of the promise and the breaking of the curse is one of my absolute favorite series of scenes in basically anything I’ve ever watched or read and it really does come down to the raw emotion and truth it focuses on. How this curse started out as something so pure even if misguided how the desire to fight the inevitable and to avoid dealing with pain led to even more pain and how letting that burden go letting that in the end fruitless fight stop was still painful. no matter how much everyone knew it was for the best letting that attachment go still hurt because no matter how painful the promise had become it was still something the mind can trick itself into thinking is safer then accepting reality and it still had its benefits even if it was overall harmful to them all and to others. I think lesser series would have made the end of the curse a purely joyful event, had the characters laugh out loud or jump around excitedly but fruits basket as a series and Takaya as a writer know that no change as momentous as that comes without both pain and joy no matter how clearly necessary it is.

ArmdVctr

So emotional that you forget that Yuki wasn't in the curse breaking scene. Saving best for last?

ArmdVctr

Do you think Kakeru's girlfriend will be part of the Movie/Special that will be coming out soon?

Megan

I doubt it since they weren’t in the trailer that released today but I guess it’s possible. That being said, have you guys seen the trailer that released today!? Without any spoilers, it looks really good though I’m still worried about the subject matter.

Akito: “Cry with me. Sob with me.” And I took that seriously.

Nick

I feel like there's a very big meaning behind the end credits scene saying "it would be many long years before the cat's plea was finally heard" and then transitioning to Tohru and Akito hugging. Ever since the beginning Tohru did say she always wanted to be the cat. I think I would have to rewatch the series to come to a conclusion on a lot of different ideas and details but I definitely think there were parallels put between Tohru and Kyo on purpose

This is exactly why I never finished the manga before the finale (I read along in season 2 but hated finding out about Rin’s backstory that way). I didn’t want to be robbed of experiencing it in all its animated glory for the first time. I know reading it later will add even more depth to what I saw, so it doesn’t feel like spoiling the little bits we get in the anime. In other words, I get double the tears 🥲😂

Nick

...I just realized Laura Bailey is Tohru's english VA??? According to crunchyroll awards at least The same voice as Lust from FMAB

I have this theory that when the cat rejected the bond that was forced on it the soul and the body became separated. Kyo got the body and Tohru got the spirit. Kyos cat spirit true form smells like rot (death). Kureno curse breaks right around the the time when kid Kyo sees Tohru. The bonds begin to break soon after they admit their feelings to themselves (not each other). The bonds fully break after Tohru (reincarnated cat spirit) became friend with god, and Kyo (reincarnated dead cat body) got his head out of his ass, apologized, and said I love you.

I think this episode goes to show why I subconsciously resonated with it so much when I was younger, even if I didn't fully understand it then. And I'm so glad you mentioned that exercise you did, because I had a similar experience (not through a group/class) and it has honestly helped me manage my relationship with my dad better. I also have a tumultuous relationship with my father, and it plagued me that my family was all willing to overlook his more questionable choices in life because "He's lived a tough life." Almost like they would give him a free pass despite some of the awful things my sister and I saw of him. However, as an adult, when I removed the more complex titles he holds like father, husband, etc. I could, for the first time, see what he had lived through as a person. And I honestly cried. It doesn't excuse the choices he made as a parent, but seeing him as a human being has helped me navigate my complicated feelings towards him. And I can say we have better conversations & overall relationship.

When the anime onlies like myself get the backstory from the original banquet only to realize that it became so muddled over the ages that it just boils down to \the cat sucks\ when the cat was like "bro i had fun with u, let me meet my end and meet u again in another life" BUT NO THE OTHERS ARE JUST LIKE HOW DARE U REJECT ETERNITY?! and then...everyone is free...was it Akito? Did Akito have to be the one to let go or did it have something to do with Kyo?? I watched this at 2 times speed and at 3 am so i had all the feels but i didn't cry like a baby this time because of the 2 previous reasons XD

Mortis

Akito let go. The spell would have eventually worn down on its own anyway since so many centuries had passed but the spell was always the god not being able to let go. So akito letting go broke the spell

Anonymous

"Just cry with me." Sure thing, Akito, sure thing. 😢 I love that in the beginning of the show we get the legend and in the end we get what actually happened. "When did the promise become a curse?" OOOOOF! *sobs harder*

Tracy McGill

The thing that always gets me with this episode is that God never asked if the cat wanted to join the bond. God gave it the spell infused drink and then explained after the cat had drunk it so it had no choice but to be stuck with the bond.

Jupiterninja

Last night I dreamt you chose like 6 series to watch at once after fruits basket and MHA and uploaded all of them on the same day

Crystalrose

I hope this isn't weird to say but Tohru and Kyo being so happy in this episode and confessing their feelings is so beautiful that it's almost hard to look at. They just shine so brightly 🥺 Overall lots of emotions tied up in this episode but it's just balanced so well!

Silent Shadow

The pain of reality is certainly an interesting thing.

akito and tohru hugging will always make me cry, it encapsulates so much emotion and it represents the growth in the show so well :) i’m sad that it’s ending tho, i just love this series and your thoughts about it so much!! i can already tell i will rewatch these reactions a ton, they’ve helped me reflect in some of my problems which is amazing. great reaction as always:)

Anonymous

I love the fact that Akito will be able to overcome that grief now that she has someone to cry with. Tohru gave her sobmuch in so little time... it's great to see Ritsu again. Still wondering why this character made it to the end given how useless they are to the plot. But wait...atrn't we forgetting something ?

Anonymous

“Cry with me like we did when we were first born into the world” This was one of my favorite lines!

Anonymous

Also fun fact: Kyo made a weird face in the credits when Akito pulled and hugged Tohru because he still thinks Akito is a man and was probably like “damn I have to share Tohru with all these Sohma men”😂

Sean Wilson

Watching this in the breakroom at work and trying not to cry- I failed. This season really is something special
