Deku's worst nightmare. Toga/Ochako split face. Creepy AF.

benj

Not 100% sure but I think this episode has BY FAR the largest death count of any episode in the show thus far. Toga caught mad bodies.

Matthew Richson

Little thing of note. Re-Destro is not Destro’s son. Cause Destro goes all the way back to the first generation of quirks. Making Re-Destro moreso his grandson or great grandson. This was a thing a lot of people got mixed up, myself included. ALSO, there was more of a reaction from the MLA when Curious was killed, particularly from Re-Destro. One of the many moments that was cut from this adaptation…

agoodwintv

Yeah I hadn't pieced that together but seems like the timeline wouldn't add up if he were indeed Destro's son.

Rudy Strother

Just to clarify, they weren’t trying to recruit Toga exactly. They want her to die and be a martyr. A girl who repressed her true nature and became insane from it. And like you said about about Destro’s book popularity and his suicide, Toga dying will boost the popularity of their story and give it a tragic ending.

Geneva The Weeba

"Suck that, freedom,” “THIS GUY. Unremarkable purple man,” “Forget quirk. Just take this rock to the face,” “What was that guy’s quirk? Being middle-aged?” “We have this propensity to give more weight to things we can attach a narrative to,” "This is them just living their authentic lives. As bombs." "Let me show you how much I love you with this box cutter" "She just killed a lot of people. Put THAT in your book" "See you guys next time when Twice fails and dies. See you guys next time when Twice survives and saves Toga" Today has been an EXCELLENT day for Goodwin quotes lmao

something interesting that was left out is the mention of quirk counselling. i’m pretty sure its for people with more “socially unacceptable” quirks, curious stated that it was to blame as it ends up just emphasising the differences between them and everyone else. also for toga’s evolution, i don’t think she literally just levelled up, since her quirk was shamed by everyone, i don’t think she must’ve had as much time to explore and use it. she probably always had the ability to copy quirks, just didn’t know. quirks are really interesting, because they *want* to be used, they shape an individual’s personality, so those born with quirks that require odd activation methods were doomed to be shamed from the beginning. toga’s quirk basically ostracised her from others and she had to wear a mask to fit in. this arc really emphasises how quirks can ruin a person’s life.

I was really shocked at the amount of death in these episodes, I always have seen this show as mainly light and not that dark other than a couple of moments, but it felt like they really went in this arc. I relate more to the villains than the heroes so this is my favorite part of the show, I always felt the villains were underdeveloped and i love what they do, a lot of elements I relate to and I think many overlook

Tyler Owens

incredible meta outro, very nice 😂

benj

Yeah this arc is a major tone shift in the show for sure...this episode is just the beginning lmao iykyk

This episode brings something very interesting to light, which is the dynamic between the person and the quirk. Someone’s personality seems heavily influenced by the quirk they have, or maybe it could even be the other way round. I think it’s a really cool concept.

Jake White

The way he acts from his scene with Toga towards the end of this episode, until the end of the arc, is what makes Twice probably my favorite character overall tbh. Such a ridiculously tragic life story that would understandably drive anyone insane, and yet he shows some of the most empathetic and ‘human’ characteristics out of anyone in the whole series. Absolute best boy

The guy you were thinking of was Overhaul. The highway mattress guy. I also feel skeptical about him and Stain being completely out of the picture. If Overhaul's quirk evolves or grows in a way where he could use his feet to activate his quirk, that'd be an interesting way for him to be back on the board. Speaking of feet, I feel like Bakugo should be able to cause explosions from his soles since his entire body secretes sweat similar to nitroglycerin.

hm, idk, we've seen Deku's mom use her quirk at home, his middle school class showed off their quirks in school, and I remember one lady on the street hid in a protective barrier when she came across a burgular, so I think it's not completely prohibited? Also, Jiiro mentioned that electric types like Denki should easily find jobs, so different professions can make use of their quirks too, not just Heroes... I think those are the selling points of this arc: Insight into the LoV and them evolving, individually and as a group. It's neccessary for the final confrontation between Heroes and Villains we're clearly heading towards, I think. It's also interesting that no matter who comes out on top, the Heroes are going to be in big trouble. Like you said, the MLA is just really creepy and their huge numbers and the fact that they are hidden in plain sight in strategic places is so worrisome, that I find myself rooting for the LoV to take them out, especially coz right now they are just a handfull of broke guys in comparison. Also, I like some of them (Twice) and find some of them entertaining to watch (everyone else except Spinner, I guess). On the other hand, looking at Toga and Shigaraki evolving here, I get really scared for the Heroes.

Emman Reed

this was great. Love the reactions.

Athena

Just a reminder that Twice's only rule when using his quirk is that he will not make a duplicate of himself out of fear of not knowing if he is the original. Seeing all of those doubles of himself popping out of nowhere equals extreme panic attack. I am so ready for next episode!

agoodwintv

Overhaul! For some reason I was trying to conjure up his Japanese name. I can definitely imagine future arcs where either he or Stain or both make their comebacks.

Skyler Anderson

Yeah use of quirks isn't 100% outlawed because also theres business owners that use them for stuff. I think it's more so like reckless use of quirks and stuff. Like for use of self defense I'm sure is legal just like gun laws in the states where in some states you can't just be using a gun anywhere but if someone attacks you, you can fire your gun to protect yourself. Probably a thought like that in terms of the quirk laws

Silent Shadow

There is the idea of people exploring their quirk to discover more about it but that is not the case with toga in that scene specifically. I am pretty sure it is stated that she actually got a mutation to her quirk in that moment due to the stress of the situation. Which aperently also a thing that happens sometimes.

Nick A Sam III

The thing that's important about the liberation army is that they're a conventional threat. They have a support item business/weapons manufacturer (Re-Destro), a politician (Hearts and Mind Party Guy), A hacker with an entertainment/social media company (Feel Good Inc), a book publisher (Curious, who is behind selling and promoting Destro's book and wants to write a followup with propaganda, like Toga's story), and they have an army (116k). They represent every traditional form of power. Whereas the League is powerful, unpredictable, and crafty. Like comparing the Iraqi army to Al Qaeda. Iraq fell in weeks. We spent almost 20 years fighting terrorists. You cant kill ideology or send tanks after individuals. This ep alone shows us what a threat the League COULD be, if they got their act together. And like you said, if one group absorbs the other, you'd get a scary "best of both worlds"

MagnusVD

Toga is showing more ways that ochako can be a deadly killer in addition to gunhead martial arts

They did such a good job building the sense of chaos and dread in this ep. Great backstory on Toga too. I know you have a backlog of requests but even if you don't do actual reactions to it I think you'd LOVE Haikyuu. The dub is extremely charming, funny, and well written but either way, you watch it is all good. It would spark your philosophical brain like crazy. lol

benj

I'd love for him to watch Haikyuu as well but the sub is significantly better in all aspects, especially in the humor and writing. Probably too long imo for a first sports anime, other slice of life's like Violet Evergarden would be more likely cause its only 13 episodes. Haikyuu is like MHA length, shits crazy long.

Anonymous

Absolutely best boy. Twice is up there with my favorites.

Kamolak

I haven't watched many sports anime, but I think he'd really enjoy Megalobox s1 and 2, it's pretty short still and has a lot of great moments, I also got into Hajime No Ippo after that it's really good too but probably too long.

Anonymous

I 100% disagree w the sub being better. It's not even close to me. Perhaps if I understood Japanese and could therefore compare them honestly and not just auditorily, I'd feel differently. Looking forward to S4 getting dubbed in March. I enjoyed the sub but it's not the same even if it is the same story. I miss 'my' kids. lol Even though it's long he can watch it at his pace especially if he doesn't have to produce reactions or other content. Id love a season by season review though. That'd be cool.

benj

You know “your” kids are originally voiced in Japanese and they actually work with the directors and writers of the show in Japan to create there art. The English dub is just an alternative version made to pander to Western audiences who refuse to read subtitles, its inherently inferior and the original Haikyuu characters will always be Japanese VA’s. The emotion and general skill of the voice acting in the original is leaps and bounds above the English, not being able to speak Japanese has 0 effect on being able to rate the quality of the performances. You understand what they are saying because you read the subs and match it with there voice.

Anonymous

I literally said I watched S4 in sub. (A show has to be really good for me to watch it in sub.) Why do some sub watchers get all up in their feelings about this? LOL Y'all be mad for no reason! They "pander to Westerners" by translating it to English in the first place. I choose to look at it in a way more charitable way. They want the world to partake in their art so they work with adaptive writers, talented directors, and trained actors all over the world to make it a seamless TV watching experience for everyone. I think that's awesome! :)

Sonozaki Shinji

like quirks are genetic, i think they bring with them some dangerous stuff, like toga loves blood cause her quirk is that way, is not like she wake up one day and want to be a wierdo, i think this happen with a lot of quirks they create this kinda of impulse on people and is hard to control, i am not saying she is right to live the way she lives now but i think she can be geniually more happy that way then surpress this urge for her whole live

benj

They don't translate it to English actually. Usually a third party or the streaming service itself provide the subtitles, the studios do not do the translations or subtitles the vast majority of the time. Just like how the English dubs are done by seperate studios with seperate directors/translators than the original people who actually made the show. They are doing it to make more money and for no other reason.
