I’m a huge fan of the opening and ending. I think the ending might be my favorite so far. As for the opening, nothing can top Red Swan for me but it’s still amazing and fits the tone of the show right now really well. There’s lots of symbolism in both but I won’t get to into it in fear of spoilers.

I do want to post the lyric of the ending in English here since your version doesn't have them in the subtitles and I think they're really beautiful. The title translates to "A Child of Evil" An iron bullet is proof of justice. Whenever I shot I became closer to the hero. If you close your eyes and touch it, The evil who has the same body and the same temperature. Am I not good enough and is he better for you? There was just a wall. Don’t cry about the destiny we were born with. Cause we are all free. If we have wings like birds, We could go anywhere. If we don’t have a place to return to, We might not be able to go anywhere. I don’t want to just live. This world is cruel but I still love you. Even if I sacrifice everything, I will protect you. Even if this is a mistake, I don’t doubt it. Considering pacing and rumours/leaks the season might not be covering the entire manga, only going to chapter 131 instead of 139 (look up 139 and 140 meaning at the end of the show) I think this season will cover everything but it’s something to keep in the back of everyone mind. I’m sure you’ve heard similar considering how controversial AOT has been with consistent realises, but I thought I should mention it.

Maybe not but a Movie is a common theory but I hope not. But I do have faith that if people are right about it not ending yet, they will add some anime only scenes, that fix the later half pacing, the Author often asks for small changes.

Neat detail is Magath telling Gabi "why did you go behind enemy lines?" with concern in his voice, after our first meeting of his character was him ordering her to go behind enemy lines Also the opening's lyrics are fully english, and they do have a lot to say about Eren's character. The ending too but the lyrics aren't english, you'd have to find a translation

"If I lose it all" part is phenomenal dude I can't stop replaying the opening and ending. It's such an aggressive opening but it has so much to say about Eren and many characters. In terms of visuals it's probably my favorite opening. Red Swan is my favorite for the music, close second for visuals. And for my favorite ending, it's a tie between season 4 part 1 and this one

What an absolute banger episode. This feels more grand and epic in scale than anything I've seen in television, but it also applies to real life in very important ways as you've discussed. I also agree with you that using the Rumbling would not be a victory, but instead a terrifying and frankly sad act of violence. And yeah I think the ending is representing Eren's "freedom fantasy", imagining a world where the walls are torn down and Paradis is abandoned because it's not needed anymore. So pumped to see you back on AoT and to hear your analysis as always.

I think many societies create hells for themselves, some more, some less. Ultimately (and I was just watching a video essay on Futurama about this lol) the majority of it levels out on the "hedonic treadmill," at least for the average citizen. I guess it's something that happens over time, as people get used to their reality. Though I could see someone could easily argue against all that as well. Because there are always going to be people who are not content with the current reality (Eren for example). And in this show, there's way too much turmoil going on at the moment for anyone to get used to anything. I'm reading the manga now and Erwin says something like "there will never be peace until there is one or fewer humans alive." Maybe. I mean it's hard when there's so much diversity of thought. You used North Korea as an example of hell, and I really can't comment on that as I don't know what life is like there. But my parents grew up in the USSR, which some others would argue was hell, and they still look back on those days with fondness for reasons other than just nostalgia. On the other hand, when it was just starting out, my grandfather suffered in a gulag for a decade of his young life. I'm not really sure where I'm going with all this, but I find it interesting anyway. Overwhelming actually. And what are these ruins portrayed in the ED supposed to mean? Why is Eren so happy about it? Why does it look so beautiful? We know the world is both cruel and beautiful at least.

10/10 episode. Literally couldn't ask for more. Connie scene takes the cake for me easily for best moment, shit had me crying. Dude has been betrayed over and over again and actually doesn't deserve any of it, his VA performed that scene so well. The animation has gotten a MASSIVE upgrade from S4 PT1, the titan CGI looks WAY better and they are flexing way more 2-D animation which means MAPPA ain't fucking around.

Now that I have had a day to relisten to the OP a couple more times...YEP this is the second best opening in all of AOT. I think its virtually impossible to beat Red Swan, which is my favorite OP of any show ever, but this new opening takes the second place spot for me. "COMING FOR YOU!!!" We already know Eren sheesh. That metal screamo voice sends me to another world, I feel like running through a brick wall after listening to it.
