not sure that i'd read stuff from the manga before watching, i feel like they show and don't show certain things for a reason, like the 'son of destro' reveal, but maybe it adds more. I personally find this part of the arc amazing having not read the manga.

ReDestro’s voice being evil Maes Hughes is always so weird to hear.

Noah Hoorn

Great reaction as always! Have you given thought to what you will watch next once you're caught up in MHA? Arcane might be a fun one, only 9 episodes and it's extremely good.

No heroes for several episodes. This arc is all about the League and their journey

glad you read the cut content! i think you’ll really enjoy MVA, can’t wait for you to reach a certain episode huhu. maybe after finishing the season you could read the entire arc in the manga so that you can see some of the uncensored/cut content. MVA has to be my second favourite arc, its so cool to have one dedicated to just the villains. i will be looking forward to seeing your reaction to the next few episodes !

he definitely needs to react to Arcane, it seems like the type of show he’d really enjoy analysing. so many interesting concepts with stunning visuals too.

Matthew Richson

This arc is actually pretty unprecedented. As apparently never before in a manga has there been an arc focused completely on the villains! Of course this where the difference in audience interest comes into play, cause villain focused arcs aren’t very popular in Japan. Whereas here in the west this arc is considered one of the best, in Japan it’s one of the least popular, the exact opposite of the JT arc. This probably played a factor into how this arc was treated. Horikoshi probably had to deal with a lot of editorial push back when writing this. Cause Japanese audiences don’t like it when the focus isn’t on the protagonists apparently. It’s considered taboo.

Im not sure if you have read this before, but for some reason the anime decided to re-organize the order of the arcs for this season. Basically, this villain arc should have happened right after the class fights. The end of the season should have been the Endevour training arc that you just finished.

In the manga, this was my absolute favourite arc for the focus it gave the Villains and the stakes it introduced. Unfortunately, due to it being done as a flashback, the outcome is a bit more obvious if you put the pieces together. Plus the cut content which, while perhaps not immediately important, I find adds a lot of characterization to the smaller villains like Spinner. I still think the arc is really good regardless, it still does a couple of my favourite moments pretty darn well, but it was disappointing that it didn't quite live up to expectations because they changed the order of the arcs and they took up time in the season for a filler episode to tie in with the third movie.

Ehh reactions arnt as fun when you read ahead and know everything now.

Like a few others have already said, I suggest reading the chapters after watching just because I'd love to see your reaction to the reveals in the anime! The parallels of how All for One and One for All give their inheritors different hope when they say, "I am here!" reminds me of Avatar and how the Avatar gave everyone hope, but with Zuko, it was a different and more personable kind of hope.

The true way to distinguish Hero from Villain, there ringtone. All Might has that amazing “A phone call is here!” ringtone while Twice literally just has fart noises. Why Twice, why do you have a fart ringtone? Explain yourself.

Yeah definitely don't read any material about this show until you have completed all the anime-only content. Most of us wanna see reactions to reveals when they happen in the show, the adaptation is fantastic so I don't think you need to go to the original to get the better story, as an anime-only this arc is one of my favorites in the whole show.

Jupiterninja

The liberation army is going to take over the entire tri-state area!!

benj

My Villain Academia IS FINALLY HERE. As an anime-only this is definitely one of my favorite arcs in the entire show. I love the change to the OP as well to the MVA title. So hyped to get further into this storyline.

Emma Root

I wish we saw the villains go to a vacation on the beach instead haha. Like I like this but I think I'm not as obsessed with it as other fans because I would rather see them play volleyball then crash Chan and Ruon-Jian's party while learning about each other and smoothing out the wrinkles in the process.

Matthew Richson

He only read those three chapters, fortunately. And I made sure to advise him to only read the full manga version till after he finishes the anime version.

I wasn't into this arc in the manga. I thought the Gigantomachia fight was repetitive and boring. I like how the anime condensed the arc to what was necessary and by the end, I definitely understood why folks like the villains so much and felt more compelled by them too. I didn't switch sides or anything but the anime worked in a way the manga couldn't for me.

Jo

"the adaptation is fantastic" "as an anime-only" 🤔

kingafreund

And it's here... I think it'll help your overall experience that you have that background knowledge from the Manga that the Anime just skips entirely, things would be much more confusing without it. Hell, the chronological order of events is already all over the place because they switched the MVA arc and the Endeavor internship arc around... I think Redestro just wants to make an example out of the League of Villains because they are famous and he views them as easy pickings.

agoodwintv

That's interesting to think about. I wonder what's at play there to create that difference.

Matthew Richson

I’d hardly call that a fight… it was rather one sided if anything. And that only lasted a chapter or two in length.

Jo

"Huh? A 20-something villain?" *Shigaraki applies face hand* "SHIGARAKI THE 20-SOMETHING VILLAIN?!"
