i feel like it's such a smart writing decision to go from Overhaul, an evil child abuser, the worst of the worst, to Gentle Criminal, a pretty lighthearted villain who just wants notoriety, it really shows the complex range of what a "villain" is in this society

Without knowing that much about him, I get the feeling that his concept does a lot of cool things at once. Like, we needed a break after Overhaul I think and so it would have been easy to bring in a sort of fluff-villain to kill time or whatever, but actually it feels like he brings some interesting themes along with him. And also a killer accent

Honestly after All For One and Overhaul it’s just nice to have a villain who’s very humanized and not like an insane killer or abuser. Not only does it give the viewer time to process the past arc but also creates more dynamic in the universe as it is not always going to be power hungry mass murderers who are labeled villains.

I'll be honest my first watch through gentle criminal was a bit too much whiplash for me and I didn't give him the thought he deserved. But I am really enjoying him this time so far.

Here is an interesting fact! That Partial Singing was also Dub in english on the Japanese Sub Version of the show as well!!!! I am not sure why but since this whole anime is a big tribute to Western Super Heros I think he wanted it in english because of that. AT least that is my take.

Yeah I didn't like him or his sidekick loli at all the first time I watched the show but I'm definitely gonna give them both another chance this time around, I think I'm gonna like that part of the arc better cause everything else is pretty great.

I agree on the whiplash aspect. Didn't really pay as much attention to Gentle the first time because of the big shift from big epic battle arc to school festival arc. I really like the dub accent he has too!

In Japan, it's seen as very cool and trendy to sing in English as well, so that may also be a reason

@benj That's my plan too. My habits change but I alternate between staying up to date and letting videos pile up. It can be nice to have a lot of content from the channel to watch in one go, especially since I'm a night owl and stay up very late with not much else to do

My first video was something funny, topical, and very short and it got almost 500K views. I'm not really even a youtuber, I just wanted to make something. My hint for people who can't get much traction is to put a lot of effort and heart into one, short video. If you can get one with a lot of views, you will start to earn subscribers.

Overhaul was such a hard villain to follow-up, especially to me who LOVED to hate him. But Gentle is such a good... foil? I'm trying to think of what a narrative "palate cleanser" would be called. He's so completely opposite to Overhaul, but still firmly fits as a "villain" (if only as a misguided, well-meaning person). Gentle's awesome and I agree. I'll have none of this backtalk.
