Overhaul: I'm gonna kill you! Deku: NOT IF I KILL MYSELF FASTER!

Been lookin forward to this all day! Haha

Nick

This is one of the best episodes of the show imo

(I've been waiting for this like a groupie at a stage door.)

Mirio: Conveniently has a hero costume made of his hair so that he doesn't have to be naked. Toga, Momo, and Invisible Girl:............

YESSSSS BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SEASON SEASON 1 EPISODE 1 REACTION

hays collins

It’s nice to see you so hyped for an action scene!

Anonymous

You've got a point. You'd think the schools have these types of situations all the time. Toga I'll kind of forgive, but Invisible girl should definitely have this done. I assume Momo's smart enough to realize this, plus she can make custom clothes for herself. Perhaps it's the hair-cutting part? Hmm... 🤔

Yayyyy!! I loved this episode so much and it's debatably my favorite episode of a shonen anime. So much to unpack from this episode. From the boss of the Hassaikai being against him using Eri because it's inhumane to Deku telling Eri for the first time in her life that her quirk is a blessing. The music is amazing, the animation is amazing, and everything inbetween. I interpret the end where Nighteye smiles for a second as him realizing that he was wrong about Deku being unworthy of the power and that someone who can change the future when no one else could is the sign of someone worthy. So amazing and I'm glad you appreciated the episode as much as I did.

Sage

Deku basically won with an infinite life and mana cheat code. XD

PS, last time I'll remind you but I think my name is still wrong in the Patreon list update LOL

Your reaction to Deku's 100% barrage was priceless

Kelsey Roberts

Last comment, but I just need to reiterate that I think that Deku is canonically the most terrifying character in the series. He has literally All the Might of a god, and almost no self-preservation instinct. His first instinct in this battle once he realized Eri's ability, was the equivalent of a suicide run. He had no guarantee that Eri's quirk would continue or that he would live through the rewind. That is why I love that one shot of Chisaki's eye just staring up at Deku with all of the pious fear of a man before his own personal Angel of Death.

Athena

what a masterpiece of an episode, the convergence of the heroes versus Overhaul, the animation, the soundtrack, the animation, and the animation! Go ahead Deku! Hit him with the consecutive normal punches lol. I love the fact that Deku wrapped Eri up in Mirio's cape thus making them both present to save her. It makes me tear up when Deku calls Eri's quirk a blessing after her entire life everyone has been telling her how much of a curse she's been. She's due for some love and hugs.

cade-carter

he releases so much force that he is propelled in the opposite direction. thats how he "flies"

Jenny bete

Toga and Twice became my fav villains during this arc! and hell yeah, Deku finally in his Super Saiyan Blue form, up to this point, the only fight scene that can top this in terms of epicness and animation is, in my opinion, in the second movie

Xylen

Although I prefer the sub overall, Chisaki is yet another example of where the dub shines. His english VA really gives it his all. In battles like this where characters are screaming at each other, dubs can often come off as cheesy and over-acted, but Chisaki is genuinely frightening and intense. That "GIVE HER BACK!" gives me chills every time.

Nathan

Next episode is one of my favorite.

ComicalSkate

God this mid-season finale is so good! So much high octane action and story. It's almost too much at times! Be prepared though as the next season worth of content is a bit slower paced to make up for how crazy this part was. Still great but definitely not as ridiculously jam-packed.

Sage

No self preservation instinct is the best description of Deku I ever heard. lol.

Kameron Y

Did I just hear an uncut/"intact" joke? 💀

benj

I didn't think it was possible for the Beach Training Montage outro to be outdone, and it has been. Sea Doggo's have taken the new top spot in outros easily.

Anonymous

I don't know if this is true or not but My theory is Deku didn't shatter time it was Eri's Quirk that messed with Night Eyes Quirk. Night eye sees time linear however with Eri being able to rewind things my theory is she messed with his quirk some how.

Craig Stanley

Possibly my favorite episode animated so far.

Rudy Strother

A parallel between Overhaul and Deku I don’t see talked about is they both wanted to help someone who explicitly asked against it. Overhaul with the Boss and Deku with Eri. I also like that both Deku and Overhaul talk about shaping the future. But while Deku had a clear, unchangeable goal, Overhauls goals and motivation seem much more fickle. He talks about doing what he is doing to save humanity by ending quirks, but also says he will sell both drugs in order to make money and save the Yakuza, which completely goes against each other. His vision of the future changes depending on the situation so he always seems in the “right”. But Deku kept his singular resolve the whole time

Rudy Strother

Also I hope this episode and the Mirio episode helped you understand why back at the License Exam you lose points for not trying to save victims hearts as well as their body. Mirio and Dekus attitude is exactly what helped Eri trust them. Being a hero is more than just physically saving someone from danger, saving their spirit matters too!

Drake Chuckle

I think what really happened is that Eri's quirk rewinding him broke nighteyes timey stuff - but in all honesty I think that would factor into his quirk too and he'd know the 'real outcome'. Never really got it.

agoodwintv

Overhaul's mistake was playing to one of Deku's best skills: hurting himself

agoodwintv

The music was really incredible this episode! As was basically everything else lol

agoodwintv

That seems plausible. That was where my mind went at first when I heard "rewind"

agoodwintv

The licensing exam is much more meaningful now after seeing that weird Deku smile haha

Jabez Katsak

The thing at the end was Nighteye smiling because he now knows that the future can be changed, which means that All Might can be saved.

Chisaki’s motivation always seemed kind of muddled to me here. He wants to eliminate quirks because they’re a disease, but he also wants to make money off of this antidote to the quirk erasing bullet to help make the yakuza powerful again. Even though it’s one of his defining character motivations up until this point, it always felt like the disease angle was never really explained-unless I missed something- and it makes him seem inconsistent when his goal of making money suddenly compromises that if he’s willing to give heroes back their quirks

Anonymous

Best explanation I can think of is that when they’ve made enough money and power, he’ll stop producing the cure, since Éri is seemingly the only source Still kind of risky to make a cure tho, since it’s totally possible someone in the world has a similar quirk/ Is able to find another cure

Nick

I read a comment on crunchyroll where someone pointed out that Deku saving Eri in this episode is his own "I am here" all might moment. Like, this is his moment of truth in many ways. He even gets the triumphant music added in

Nick

Also God I love Overhaul as a villain, and that his motivations are tied to the plummeting status of the yakuza. He's a bad guy, but his motivations are tied to a weird warped care for the yakuza. Like he's viewing it as a solid organization with him and his master only, and not something made up of complex individuals, so he views them all as expendable to their success.

BubbleTea

Since Nighteye didn't know Eri's exact quirk, pretty sure all the rewinding of time has altered whatever he saw. But we can't discredit or understimate Deku's 'if there's a will there's a way.'

malik

The comedic timing of "You always take things too far Chisaki" is underrated lol. Boss may have been naive to think Chisaki wouldn't stoop to assaulting him to accomplish his dream, but he had him pegged from the beginning. I wonder if after absorbing his underling to become a gaint flesh monster and being kicked into the sky by Deku, did Overhaul ever stop and think "Maybe I have taken things to far"?

Nick

I think that's what he was doing when that flashback started after Deku kicked him. He was probably struggling with the question of if he went too far, but ultimately his anger and frustration won that fight. He couldn't understand why his master/boss didn't agree with what he was doing.

Burk314

When he talked about making money, Chisaki was talking to the boss. I took that not as a solid plan, but as the excuse he was using to get permission to continue the work, while his real plan was ending quirks.

Darby

I don't think I've seen you this into a fight before - I love it lol I won't lie, before you started this show I had never seen it and actually not only voted against it, but talked shit about how you wouldn't like this type of series in the comments (as if I knew lol). Ended up watching the first 8 episodes while getting tattooed and damn is this show amazing. Glad you're enjoying it and look forward to more reactions, MHA and beyond.

Anonymous

I love how calm you are in these "Hype and exciting moments." It's nice to see your reaction, but your breakdown of the what and why is what I come back for. I've done my fair share of watching reactors, and although specific scenes are truly hypeworthy, it's nice to see a calm yet very detailed approach and analysis !

Nick

It makes moments like Deku using 100 percent on Overhaul that much more interesting because scenes like that surprise him. Very fun to watch along with the commentary as always

Will Watches

I remember Toga being naked but not THAT naked, I swear she has like a white skin tight suit , maybe you have the uncensored version?

benj

yeah i mean the uncensored version is the original one that should be what everyone watches. Mainly for this Toga scene in particular lmao

Anonymous

Not even a mid fight inspiration flashback was enough to stop 100% Deku

Emman Reed

nighteye finally smiles at the end kind of like how he used to smile at all might. Also maybe bc eri was constantly rolling back time that the time line may have changed and certain events were avoided?

Nick

I thought the same thing in terms of the futures Nighteye saw. I definitely think it has to do with Eri in some level

Anonymous

I have no way to know this, but my theory on why the future changed is because of Eri's rewind ability. She rewinds time so that she can escape Overhaul and jump to Deku. Because of this Deku is able to use 100% of All for One and defeat Overhaul and change the future NIghteye saw.

Brimmy

I'm not ready to die at 5 am so i'm not gonna watch ep 14 till idk the afternoon? ...was Toga not wearing a skin tight bodysuit? did they forget to draw it/shade it differently?...I just googled it...the blu ray has her naked??????? she's supposed to be wearing a body suit like this https://i.imgur.com/HiyyUYN.png but she's "naked" instead that's so weird for the blu ray version XD also welcome to Eri is amazing with the most kick ass quirk! precious smol bean must protect Erio? XD She too young to be shipped lol Alex the Kagure in Furuba and now Erio XD forgot how amazing the animation was for this ep hehe

benj

nah the one where she is wearing a body suit is the censored version of the show, she's actually supposed to be naked cause thats how her quirk works.

Brimmy

OH lmao well that's what i get for trying to play catch up at 5 am XD

Anonymous

That’s my theory as well. Nighteye’s quirk couldn’t account for Eri’s rewind quirk basically healing Deku faster than using 100% could wreck him.

agoodwintv

Quirk: Can see characters hearts and motivations. Quirk limitation: Can't remember their names so nobody knows who I'm talking about
