I will post an update after watching the vid, but wanted to warn you that if you do make these public on YouTube, brace for spoilers! Also, thanks for continuing this show

Time to sacrifice more children for the greater good, Eren Jaeger style! Don't worry, we are helping, we just have to kill your child. No biggie.

Athena

That was my first time ever watching the intro and I have to say it does contain major spoilers lol

I'm curious to see where this leads to

that moment when the older sister character came to save March was so impactful to me. i really loved the touch that she's really bad at archery but still shot the arrow at them knowing it'd probably fail. i related to the older sister character so much, i have a very strong maternal, protective instinct, especially over children and my little siblings (though in the case of the show March isn't literally her older sister). there have been a few times in my life where i've had to put myself in danger to protect my little sisters, and idk just seeing it portrayed in this episode struck such a cord in me

Nick

Yeah this is why it should probably only be viewed once lol. I recommended it because it definitely sets a tone for the show, but you have to be very careful about it Edit: I guess it depends on the person and how much they care about spoilers. I watched it every episode because I loved it and it enhanced the story for me, but that's just me.

Update: WOAH I love how you tied in that quote from Tohru's mom into this. That's so cool, I never thought of it that way. In the scene where March is trying to teach the orb/boy how to eat fruit with manners, it is kind of like she is teaching him kindness little by little, or rather being human. Like you said, he was a rock, then a wolf, then a boy. He only has the bare minimum. And as you also said, March is getting to be a sort of mother to him/it. Also, it's never explained in the show but from what I've heard from people, the reason his eyes turned from yellow to pink is because the boy said he wanted to eat all kinds of tasty fruit, and never had any. It was his wish to meet others and eat fruit. So a lot of people have said that because the orb fulfilled that, his eyes reverted to the boy's color of pink eyes. Idk if it's confirmed in the manga at all, but very interesting! I've always thought of it as a nice way to depict the orb remembering him even after he's gone. That was also his wish: "remember me forever" Really excited to see your thoughts as the story continues!

i think the dread you're feeling from seeing an abundantly happy scene could just come from anime conditioning lol, and due to your expectation of a narrative. you expect the story to create stakes, and the only reason for a story to have stakes is for the listener to worry about what is at risk

The dread that some have talked of in this comments, I can actually agree with; it isn't JUST a thing in media. I think depending on the level of that feeling it can be healthy; it isn't wrong to be cautious. I'm currently in a really good feeling about my life, but its right before the start of a new job and new semester of college. Feels like I'm at the top of a rollercoaster about to descend on a crazy ride! So that discussion point really hit me, haha.

This reminds me of a piece of advice my parents gave me when I was young. "Don't feed it or it will follow you home".

now I wanna listen to that song. Certified iPod shuffle classic

It's definitely from conditioning. Have you ever seen Valerian? There's this opening scene where this alien lady is just SO HAPPY, like an excessive amount of happiness complete with her doing dancing twirls on the beach for no reason and all these cute little alien animals and stuff. That's when I realized her entire planet was doomed.

agoodwintv

Yeah I think it's such a resonant thing in media and maybe a somewhat obvious thing because it's based on something deeper. There's a reason neuroticism is a dominant trait among people. It's probably extremely advantageous in situations of high danger or rapid change. Breaking Bad comes to mind where Walter White becomes a badass just because he has the right chaotic situation to apply his neuroticism to lol. The "everything is fine" feeling for some people is terrifying in its own right, because questions emerge like "well how long will this last," and "what dangers am I not seeing," etc. That aside, congrats on the new job and new semester!

agoodwintv

Maybe a corollary of that is "feed it if you want it to follow you home" lol

I liked how March got progressively younger as you watched it - 3 months, 3 weeks, then 3 days old. XD.

The orb got to fulfill the boy’s dream to eat fruit!! 🍐 I wonder if that’s why his eyes changed from green to red. Also when March tried to teach the orb to talk it was so adorable.
