Cheezy

Had to pause the video to have a chuckle at that description, oh my god 😂😂love it

So iirc the English voice actor for all might shared that clip as a sound bit for ringtones. Had it as mine a few years back

"They didn't go out of their way to attack stain"

Jo

Please note: Iida, Midoriya and Todoroki DID go out of their way to attack Stain. Literally all of them sought out an incident after seperating from their mentors. It wasn't technically self defense lol

To answer your earlier question, Shigaraki is of course a 736 year old dragon spirit bound to the body of a teenage boy through the use of human transmutation.

Burk314

Keep in mind, there's an effort here in the law to prevent vigilantism and make sure any heroes out on the street are properly trained and certified.

MikeWest

What is it with anime comedy? It's so hit or miss. Deadpan woofing dog chief? gold followed by whatever that "hand crusher" moment was in the hospital. Terrible And then, All Might's ringtone. Again, gold. Sub watchers, is something getting lost in translation here? halp

Rudy Strother

Iida purposefully went out looking for Stain when his mentor said to stay with him. Midoriya purposefully went looking for Iida (with a huge hunch Stain would be there) when he was told by his mentor to stay put. Now Todoroki didn’t know what was going on to be fair, but he purposefully left his mentor knowing full well it was probably something dangerous since Midoriya contacted him from the same general area as this crazy Nomu attack is going on.

These 3 boys were the equivalent of 3 teens getting weapons and attacking someone they believed to be a criminal. Imagine quirks as if everyone had a gun. So the idea is heros must be properly trained and equipped to go after bad people also with guns. In order to prevent casualties and destruction and ensure a swift resolution. So basically Heros are the New Police with even more regulations put on them. When people go and try to capture criminals IRL its vigilantism and can go very wrong.

Rudy Strother

They are supposed to stay with their mentors and report to heroes for help, not go out on their own. If I was a minor with a gun I can’t just run around to danger and start shooting bad guys lol. The rules may seem strict and unfair but these rules make a clear line in the sand of what is legalized, licensed hero work and wanton vigilanteism. Without these strict rules, anyone would feel like they were allowed to run out and “help” with the potential of getting themselves or someone else hurt. And even though this time was ok, ends don’t justify the means

Lmao they might have done you dirty with the onions just to test whether you had it in you to stick around. My first day of training to work at a preschool they had me in the 18-month old classroom changing diapers and wiping noses and breaking up fights nonstop for 8 hours. For you, the onions were there to show you that you didn't really want to be in the kitchen. For me, those little nightmare gremlins showed me how much I was willing to put up with just for the love of working with kids. I think that was actually a very effective way to filter in the people who really wanted to be there. Whichever way it turns out, you learn something from those experiences.

i dont really think you're missing anything, it's literally just Todoroki noting how he's been in situations where both Deku and Iida have gotten their hands hurt lol. it's just supposed to be a cute funny moment because he's genuinely wondering if he has some kind of curse. it's funny because he's so serious about something so dumb, i don't think it's terrible at all

Cheezy

iirc Shiggy's actually 20 years old. So he's young, but still a few years older than most of the main cast. His tantrums and overall immaturity are pretty purposefully meant to make him feel like an angsty teen though, ahaha :P

agoodwintv

Haha fair point... they did go out of their way to show up. But I think that in many cases, self-defense laws apply to defending others as well.

agoodwintv

That's exactly what it was. There's a hazing process to a lot of really tough occupations for exactly that reason. I went through very severe "orientation" for my job as a stock broker, but in that case I actually wanted to do it enough to stick around.

I definitely think that their experience with Stain will definitely bring those three closer. To go through such a harrowing event together and not come out closer would be a shock. I think they all understand their motivations and thoughts a little bit better now. And yes, All-Might does have merch! It feels like being the No 1 Hero would make it almost impossible to not get recognition and promotional stuff. I guess that's part of Stain's fanatical ideology blinding him to even All-Might's flaws.

Kollie123

“They didn’t go out of their way to attack Stain” Iida: 👁👄👁 But seriously, it looks like other people have already made the points I wanted to say, so I’ll just say I appreciate your ability to look at this episode rationally and objectively. This is an episode that a lot of reactors don’t process well and get very vocal about the silliness of the rule, when it’s really not that black and white. All I’ll say is make a mental note of this, because eventually the series will touch again on the dangers of unlicensed people using their quirks, and it doesn’t go as well as it did for the boys in the alley lol.

Joel S

I want to see the voice actor who played the police chief saying 'woof' in the booth for some odd reason.

Hey just asking if you have already watched Assassination Classroom?

Caio Miranda

There's a nice parallel between Stain and Deku, both completely deferential to All Might. But while Deku got direct guidance from him, Stain only has the idealized version, compares everyone to All Might and is frustrated by the ordinariness of heroes. The hidden assumption of "The Symbol of Peace" as an archetype is that not everyone (most, actually) can/is willing to live up to the ideal of the romantic hero, but someone has to do it. All Might accepts and understands this, and Midoriya eventually must also. But "Ubermenschs" (no idea if I'm writing this correctly, this ESL comment is hard enough) not being the norm makes Stain feel betrayed.

agoodwintv

Haha yeah Iida definitely was going out of his way to attack Stain. I'm glad to hear this comes up again!

agoodwintv

Not yet but this gets recommended quite a bit, especially when I mention my experience teaching haha

Xylen

I think, in this analogy, it would be more like Iida took his gun and went out looking to murder a known criminal. Midoriya had his gun with him, and knew Iida was going to do something rash, so he went looking for him to stop and protect him... he then came upon Iida about to be executed by the criminal, and defended him with proportional force. Todoroki got a message from Midoriya that gave him reason to believe he was in imminent danger, so he alerted the authorities, took his gun and protected him with proportional force as well. It's all complicated, legally, by the fact that Iida went looking for a fight without knowing that anyone else was in danger. But I think as soon as Stain had Iida incapacitated, everything after that was justified defense by the other two students. Native should even be able to attest to the fact that they used reasonable force. Not defending vigilantism (Iida), and I understand why the law in the show is the way it is, but I still don't think it's totally right. I don't think Midoriya or Todoroki should be punished (except perhaps slightly for disobeying their mentors). Edit: To put it another way, I might be misunderstanding, but it seems to me that the law as presented in the show means that nobody who isn't a pro hero can use their quirk to defend someone else. Like if two friends (citizens) were walking along, a short distance from each other, and one randomly got attacked, the other one wouldn't be allowed to use their quirk to protect their buddy. That seems a little ridiculous. Maybe I'm missing something about this case that changes the context though (specifically Midoriya and Todoroki).

agoodwintv

That's a very interesting point. All Might's strategy as a symbol is working a little TOO well in this case I guess :D

Nick

Alex: "Everyone needs something to believe in, I think" Reminds me of Kenny from AOT, being drunk on something to push on. The world of MHA is far less cruel, but still that idea persists. Fanatics can invite people who are looking for something to lean on as well, kind of like with Stain and his weird, extremely weird ideology.

Before the next My hero academia episode! I demand proof you changed your ringtone :P!

Thought I had a phone call when All Mights phone rang 😂 Love that ringtone 💕

Looks like you are starting to grow out your own Berries & Cream Boy haircut lol

Continuing to show amazing insight into this world. Great reactions and can't wait for the episodes to come

I watched a bit ahead and just wanted to mention there is a movie that takes place between seasons 2 and 3. I did have to rent it on Amazon tho.

all anime is free brother, 9anime.to works great for me. There are plenty of reliable and easy to use websites that have pretty much all the anime you can think of on it in source level quality.

J Valentine

Ah, yes. A Zoolander reference. I see you are a man of culture as well.

agoodwintv

I went back to do it but realized I had deleted the raw footage. Disk space is a rare commodity these days
