Oh ho ho just in time

Bakugou having the biggest ego on the planet because people hyped him up in day care is still one of the funniest backstories to me “That’s an amazing quirk” “You’re right, I’m the greatest person on the planet!” “No wai”

KJ Gaona

I think its funny that so many people have such a strong hatred for Bakugou when its so clear he's meant to be the prideful angry gifted kid who hasn't been forced to grow past that yet. He's a first year high school student so obviously he doesn't have a fully developed personality yet. At that age most people don't know who or what they are so it's interesting to watch all these half baked hero wannabe kids develop the qualities and experience they'll need to become adults and pro heroes. EDIT: I'll add to this that even the more likeable and nicer kids (in this show and IRL) are each missing qualities that they'll need to be more well rounded people. It's just easier to hate on someone if they're outwardly difficult to get along with. I don't see anyone harping as much on the murdering villains of this show like they do to my boy Kachaan.

I mean, he is a complete dick. He’s one of my favorite characters in the show but it’s not surprising that some people have a visceral reaction to him. Especially with how personal bullying is to some people.

You know, I feel like if I knew this man in real life, he would like breakdown my childhood and literally fix every problem I’ve ever had lmao

macrowave

another comment may have already said this but the "I couldnt' just stand there and let you die" sentence from Deku was from the slime fight, where Deku rushed in to save Bakugo, not from when Bakugo fell in the water

Nick

Man Bakugo really has an explosive personality huh I'll see myself out

agoodwintv

I think the daycare scene was key. The kids being impressed is one thing but the adults falling all over him is another!

agoodwintv

Lol that makes a lot more sense. He was clearly alright sitting there in that river. I thought that was his false perspective

Ramon Cintron

Watching this episode it just reminded me of what I think is one of this show's greatest sins. It breaks the Show don't tell rule... alot. So far they keep constantly telling us what we are seeing cause they think we're too stupid to figure it out on our own even when they just got done explaining or hinting at it recently a simple flashback to Eraserhead using the bindings on Bakugo would have been enough to tell us that Deku noticed the best way to contain Bakugo and there was no need for Bakugo to explain what the tape was for when Allmight just got done explaining it to the kids. It's quite frankly insulting media like this that I do not like it sours the good notes on the show when they just keep showing and explaining everything as it happens instead of letting the audience connect the dots.

I'm such an avid fan of this show because of how much I see of myself reflected in Izuku. It's a great manifestation call to action to those who, like myself, were moved by recognizing the overwhelmingly positive traits that would make someone like us, very perceptive, observer oriented people, feel more capable in what we feel would be our calling.

KJ Gaona

Lmao you're not wrong at all. It's the kind of show where if you're not able to enjoy despite all the excess dialogue, you'll end up being real annoyed by all the wasted screen time. This show gets poor marks for efficiency.

Janelle

I really appreciate your thoughts when it comes to Bakugou and Izuku's history. I really just found myself nodding along to all your points while watching lmao. Bakugou is definitely.... a character and it's pretty difficult because your whole thought process was mine when I first watched the show and even now. I've definitely got mixed feelings having Bakugou as my favourite character while I do sympathize with him, it is pretty tough to think about how horribly he treated Izuku for literal years. Bakugou is a pretty interesting character especially since a lot of fans either love him or hate him but you can't really blame people for hating him.

Another message I dont like about this show I just realized watching this is that Deku is not really an underdog anymore the moment he gets a quirk so it goes form being a story about someone who was born different trying his best to achieve his goals despite the restrictions of his birth to a Chosen One story by not only being chosen as Allmights succesor but being just handed a power that with time will just make him superior to everyone around him. He didnt have to become a hero through struggle and being ingenious and figuring out a way to reach his goals on his own terms as a person born with out powers He is just given his greatness and the lesson is if you are born inferior you have no chance of succeeding in your endeavors. This is where it feels like a cop out cheap story when I went into this show expecting to see someone challening the system and norms and through his intelligence and creativity ( AKA all those stupid notes they showed us early in the story that he takes to stay one step ahead.) and instead what I got was a chosen one story where he gets chosen cause he's reckless rather then smart. And before people start saying He had to train hard to get the chance at his power that was like a half an episode montage in which Allmight was in full control of his actions rather then Deku himself alot of people think that since he's kind and hard working it excuses this point and automatically makes him worthy but being a good person doesn't exactly make you worthy of such a responsability and the same goes for just being smart you need to be able to go beyond those points and I see Deku in all honesty as white bread his personality is nothing more then I am good so I can achieve anything and that's just a dumb way to look at life.

ALEXXXXXXX. Your discussion of Bakugo is perfect. I love your reaction to this show. On a more general note, I will have to say that you are my favorite reactor currently. Your insights are both mentally stimulating AND relaxing, which is hella difficult as a graduate student. Your reactions have made living through my second year and prepping my thesis defense so much easier.

agoodwintv

Yeah it is true that to a large extent Deku's ability is still luck. There's that right place right time element to it. Though I think his powers are only one element of the heroism they are exploring

agoodwintv

Thank you, I'm glad :D Best of luck with your thesis defense! (If you haven't done it already)

Kamolak

wait you were famous as a kid? :O who are you? sorry if that's tmi or touchy.

Drake Chuckle

"It's over for you dude" I laughed so hard. Alex just straight up writing this kid off for life bahahaha.

agoodwintv

Not at all, I brought it up. I was a child actor. I wouldn't say I was famous but I had enough exposure to be recognized frequently (back then), but more relevantly I got special treatment from many people, including teachers like in this episode.

Shark-ira

Man, I just love Deku's and Bakugou's relationship. I can see a lot of myself in both of them. (Though I tend to relate a lot more to Bakugou) Seeing them clash a lot actually gives me insight about myself like who I am, who I was, and who I want to be. For now, like you said, I hope this moment helps their relationship in the future.

Sklargen

I really love watching your thoughts on these shows! you always bring me more to think about, and boy do i love thinking about things haha! Are you planning to watch the MHA movies aswell?

Sam B

Deku is pretty insane for willingly exploding his own arm again. That purple shade it turns after a smash attack... adrenaline and shock can only help so much, the pain must be excruciating.

Nyashaxo

I think what Kacchan meant by 'that's why i hate you' was that even though Deku is ppresumably weak to him, never had confidence, he still tries to stand up for himself and tries to be better. Because of Deku's 'weakness', Kacchan expects him to keep cowering away from him/any hard situation, but he never does. And that annoys him. I think what Deku has is the courage to keep pushing on, no matter what.

minimonie__

Alex everytime yugo aoyama speaks: 'what did he say' XD

minimonie__

Also really love your analysis of bakugo! I think it's weird to overly-praise someone just because they have certain qualities they didn't have control of. It's important to distinguish which things to praise, especially when they get into your head easily when you're at that young of an age.

Sklargen

I love the movies and I'm very interested in what you are going to say about them!

Brimmy

Oh my god the amount of times i rolled my eyes whenever bakugo would speak like bro \shut up\, Season....twooooo???? Bakugo when? or was it Season 3? fuck there's a lot of episodes.....doesn't help I'm somewhere in season 5 from the manga...or am i further OMGGGG I HATE MY MEMORY I do love when you just go on tangents, everything always makes a bit more sense afterwards :3

Chris

These kind of moments right here are why I love Deku to a fault, he just never fails to amaze me. At the end of the day he's a hero because of the way he is, simply amazing.

Derrick C. Shields

Personally, it took like, no convincing at all for me to like Bakugo after S1. Basically as long as he wasn't *literally* telling Deku to commit suicide I thought he was pretty cool lol.

benj

interesting cause Bakugo has been my favorite character right from S1 to where I am now in S3 and this is my first time watching the show.

Derrick C. Shields

The scene where Deku is telling Bakugo he "couldn't just let him die" is during the Sludge villain incident. That's why it's shown right after the river scene. In Bakugo's mind, both that and the accident at the river were just Deku looking down on him and thinking he's weak and needed help. Again, to say the obvious: as if you're weak for "needing help." Poor Bakugo :(
