If Genghis Khan succeeded we would not have the issue of Sub vs Dub.

Francesca White

i don't know if u noticed, the dad left with the key, and when eren woke up he had the key

Oh my GOD your reactions are so goddam good. AOT is my second favourite show after avatar so you’re just blowing my mind time after time. Keep it up!!!

Megan

This is my first time watching this episode in sub. I originally watched in dub since this was my first anime so comparing them is quite interesting. In dub Hannes says “there’s nothing you could have done for her, you understand? you’re a kid, you’re weak” instead of “you couldn’t save her because you lacked strength.” Attack on titan has become one of my favorite shows even though I only started watching it a few months ago. I’m so glad you’re reacting to it!

I don't know if you've seen the memes but a joke among anime fans is a mom having a side braid/plait means they have the hair of death. It's happened in various shows but FMA and AoT are two well known examples

I have only watched the sub for season 4 and the dub for everything else (i think they are both really good) so it's interesting to see some of the differences. Like how Eren says he is going to "drive the titans out" vs the dub where he says he is going to "kill them all" which I feel packs more of a punch. I wonder if its a case of the sub being more of a direct translation vs the dub matching the spirit of what it means in japanese.

Lol remember the days when the extent of my sadness was Bait being left out?

agoodwintv

Wow that's a big difference. I'm gonna ask a friend to translate that for me to make sure :)

agoodwintv

It's really difficult to get these things right. Respect to anybody who does translation work, whether it's for the subtitles or the dubbed version.

ArmdVctr

Attack on Titan! An awesome show but the thematic opposite of FMA

Itachi The Rouge

You definitely want subtitles for the cards! They all have really good information that the show often doesn’t tell you so you’ll miss a lot of info without being able to read those. The card in this one says the further into the walls you go the higher the elevation.

I love how quickly you notice the 3 different mindsets they have. none of them are right or wrong but value things differently.

agoodwintv

I like how we get those 2 group "conversations" with them back to back. The first one is just raw expression. The second one is resolve and unity.

Nick

I never thought about the argument Eren had with Armin deeper. It’s interesting that you said he might be directing that at himself. I think that makes a lot of sense, he’s mad at himself because he was just like everyone else when the titans came. Afraid and powerless like livestock with predators. That’s super interesting to me. Also, love that you talked about how change can be started with extremes. It reminded me of your Korra reactions where you basically stated that the antagonists were all pushing for an ideal that wasn’t inherently bad, but they took it took it too far. Most of them, despite being defeated, did end up causing some change though. It takes big efforts to even start legitimate change.

Nick

One thing they both share is this idea of humans rising up to the occasion and overcoming obstacles and tragedy. I forget the specific line but the whole opening song and animation for this season made me think of humans being tiny and insignificant, yet still choosing to fight on. AoT seems less about everything being connected, and more about separate entities that clash. FMA is more about everything being connected, and how we’re not all so different, the world operates with us same as the universe.

agoodwintv

Yeah after all the craziness in these episodes... Eren deserves the chance to vent. He's not mad at Armin, it's the whole thing and his feelings of helplessness. That's a nice throwback to Korra. It's one of the ideas I liked about the show and I am still impressed that that idea formed even though they didn't plan all 4 seasons in advance. And I think there is something to that. The world is always in flux and crazy things happen, and that motivates people in different ways, and you often end up with extremes of belief and action, and then a process of things balancing out into some new shape. This is something that makes me optimistic about the world in a very broad sense. It's like... maybe every problem is something that HAD to come up sooner or later, and you just hope that by working through issues one thing at a time, maybe you end up somewhere good. And I think that works on the individual level as well. An example, speaking of Avatar, would be Zuko. Sometimes experiences give us enough of a kick to be really strongly motivated in one direction or another, and often that's incomplete but it keeps the journey going.

Yusuf

Your commentary on Eren's mindset is very interesting..................................................................................................................................................

Yusuf

Everything that doesn't make sense has an explanation but you have to wait a while. The show will slowly unravel the mysteries. There are so many twists in the show and they all make sense. Can't wait for a particular episode for you to react to!

Nyashaxo

To my understanding, Hannes telling Eren that he lacked the strength was correct. He is a kid, he physically did not have the strength in that moment to lift that debris, or carry his mum out. There was nothing he could've done. So I never took it as a mean thing that he said. Purely pointing out they're weakness, including his own (lacking courage).

Anonymous

Oh man, I think I know which episode you are talking about, can't wait.

Nick

Yeah to me him saying that next part about himself is what allowed me to realize he wasn’t saying it to hurt Eren, it was more of a self wallowing moment. Acknowledging the powerlessness they both had

War2244

"Damn that's rough.... buddy" LMAO I died laughing at a scene I shouldn't be lmao.

Stephen

Eren's dad had the key with him when he left in episode 1
